Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers Betting Preview/Prop Picks

24 May 2022

The New York Rangers will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night for Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Playoff series. Carolina currently holds a 2-1 series lead through four games, but the home teams have won every game to this point.

The Hurricanes won the Metropolitan Division this season, and they have been a popular Stanley Cup title pick. Carolina controlled the series through two games, but they have to find a way to win in New York.

The Rangers trailed the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 in the First Round, but they won three straight games to set up this matchup. New York has been terrific on home ice in the postseason, and they want to send this series back to Carolina all tied up.

The New York Rangers are slight moneyline betting favorites at -109 in Game 4 of this playoff series.

Hurricanes Need to Score

Carolina scored close to 3.5 goals per game during the regular season, but they have just five total goals so far in this series. The Hurricanes have been solid on the defensive end, but Carolina has to use their offense as a weapon on Tuesday night.

Sebastian Aho led the team with 81 points during the regular season, and he has to provide a spark in this game. Carolina can’t keep playing tight games and expect to come away with a clutch play when needed.

Goaltender Antti Raanta has been terrific so far in the playoffs as he is allowing just 1.86 goals against per game. Another dominant performance from Raanta can push the Hurricanes to a big lead in the series.

Rangers Comfortable Playing Slow

This entire series has been played at a slow pace, and the New York Rangers are comfortable with that style. New York averaged just three goals per game this season, and they held teams to 2.5 goals per game.

Artemi Panarin is the biggest offensive star of this team, and he has scored eight points so far in the playoffs. Mika Zibanejad has actually been the best weapon for New York in the playoffs, as he leads the team with 13 total points.

Goaltender Igor Shesterkin has been dominant so far in this series, and he has the ability to take over a game as well. New York is going to be looking to win another low-scoring affair on Tuesday night.

Carolina Take Command of Series

Game 3 was a low-scoring affair, and Carolina couldn’t seem to get anything going when they had the puck. Expect another low-scoring game on Tuesday night, but this time it will be the Hurricanes that are able to take advantage.

The Hurricanes are clearly the better overall team in this matchup, and that will eventually show up in New York. The Rangers have a chance to put some serious pressure on the Hurricanes with a win in Game 4, but they just don’t have enough offense to get it done.

One goal is going to be the difference on Tuesday night, but the home fans will leave disappointed. Bet the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 as they win in New York to take a 3-1 series lead over the Rangers.

Prop Picks

NY Rangers (+115) UNDER 2.5 Goals

Carolina is allowing 2.4 goals per game on defense, which ranks No. 1 in the league, while holding teams to 28.2 shots per game, which also ranks No. 1. Scores have gone UNDER in seven of the Hurricanes’ last 10 games versus the Rangers.

With Dunkel predicting a Carolina victory by the score of 2-1, take the Rangers (+115) to finish UNDER their Vegas team total of 2.5 goals against the Hurricanes.

Igor Shesterkin (-105) UNDER 29.5 Saves

Shesterkin had a .935 save percentage in 53 games during the regular season. That percentage has decreased to .921 in the postseason and .888 in NY losses.

With Dunkel predicting a Carolina win, take Shesterkin (-105) to finish under 29.5 saves versus the Hurricanes.
