Open Championship 2023 Betting Preview
18 July 2023

The 2023 Open Championship is set to be held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, and this is always a course that challenges the golfers. This is the final golf major of the year, and all of the best golfers in the sport are going to be teeing it up this weekend.
Golf at the Open Championship is a bit different than golf at the other major tournaments as it will be played in a different manner. Keeping the ball on the fairway is extremely important, and it’s not as important to hit the ball a long way.
Here is a look at some of the betting odds that are out there and a Dunkel pick and preview for the Open Championship.
McIlroy is Favorite at “Home”
Rory McIlroy is a legend in Europe, and he is always a fan favorite every single year at the Open Championship. McIlroy is coming into this event with some momentum as well after winning the Scottish Open.
The betting odds have McIlroy as one of two betting favorites, with the odds set at +700 at Royal Liverpool. Scottie Scheffler is the other co-favorite for this event, and all he does is finish inside of the top 10.
Jon Rahm is the other golfer that always seems to be among the favorites in every event that he enters, and that’s the case yet again. Rahm has odds set at +1300 to win the Open Championship, and he certainly has the golf game to get that done.
A Look at the Contenders
While it’s never easy to bet against the group of favorites at the Open Championship, there are going to be other golfers in play as well. Since all of the biggest names in the sport will be teeing it up, you can make a case for a number of golfers to get the job done.
Here are some of the other names that you should be paying attention to, and the odds that are set for them:
- Cameron Smith +1800
- Brooks Koepka +1800
- Xander Schauffele +2200
- Viktor Hovland +2200
- Patrick Cantlay +2200
Smith comes into this event as the defending champion, and that proves that he can play well when it comes to this style of golf. Koepka is always a name to watch when it comes to the major golf championships, as he always finds a way to be in contention.
The other three names on this list have all put up some great rounds of golf throughout their career, and now they will look to get it done on a big stage.
Smith Repeats as Champion
Cameron Smith got the job done at the Open Championship a year ago, and he is among the group of contenders that should make a run this year as well. McIlroy is going to have a massive following at this event, like always, but he is in a long drought for a reason.
There is going to be a loaded leaderboard for this event, like always, and it’s going to take four great rounds of golf to get the job done. Smith has shown that he has what it takes to win at the Open Championship, and he is going to go back-to-back.
Bet on Cameron Smith at +1800 as he wins another Open Championship.
