The 2022-23 NHL season is just getting underway, and every team in the league is looking to get off to a good start. The Seattle Kraken host the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night, and these are two teams with very different outlooks for this season.
This is just the second game of the season for the St. Louis Blues, but they should be a team that competes for a playoff spot. St. Louis beat the Columbus Blue Jackets in the season opener, and they will look to move to 2-0.
Seattle comes into this game with a record of 1-2-1 to begin the year, and they have been wildly inconsistent. The Kraken were sharp in the season opener, but they have since lost two straight games in blowout fashion.
The St. Louis Blues are the moneyline betting favorites at -148 in this matchup with the Seattle Kraken.
Blues Can Score
The St. Louis Blues might have played just one game this season, but that offense proved that it is going to be lethal. St. Louis scored five goals in the season opener, and just one of those came on the power play.
Vladimir Tarasenko was the offensive star in the season opener, as he scored a pair of goals to lead the team. St. Louis is comfortable giving up some goals because they know they can get them back on the other end.
Goaltender Jordan Binnington gave up just two goals in the series opener, and he is going to be a big key to the success of the Blues this season.
Kraken Have to Defend
If the Seattle Kraken are going to turn their season around, then they have to find a way to be better on defense. Seattle is allowing four goals per game, and that just puts way too much pressure on the offense to respond.
It does appear as if the Kraken are going to be a better offensive team this season, as they have scored close to three goals per game. Andre Burakovsky leads the team with five total points, but there have been some other players that have stepped up in a big way.
Seattle doesn’t want to get into a high-scoring affair with the Blues, but they are able to win that way if needed.
Kraken Bounce Back With Win
Traveling from St. Louis all the way out to Seattle is not easy, and that is going to have an impact on this Blues team. St. Louis has also had a long break since the season opener, and there are going to be some signs of rust in this one.
This should be a high-scoring affair, as St. Louis is a great offensive team, and Seattle has enough individual talent to score as well. Don’t be surprised to see the Kraken show up big in this game, and they will come up with a clutch play late to seal the victory.
Bet the Seattle Kraken moneyline as they are able to end their two-game losing streak by picking up a win over the St. Louis Blues.
Prop Picks
Seattle (-150) OVER 2.5 Goals
Seattle averaged 2.60 goals per game on offense last season, which ranked No. 29 in the NHL. St. Louis allowed 2.92 goals per game on defense last season, which ranked No. 11.
With Dunkel predicting a Seattle win by the score of 5-4, take the Kraken (-150) to finish OVER 2.5 goals scored against the Blues.
Andre Burakovsky (-120) OVER 0.5 Points
Burakovsky recorded a career-high 61 points (22 goals, 39 assists) in 80 games played last season with Colorado. The Kraken left wing has 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 4 games played so far this season.
With Dunkel predicting the final score going OVER the Vegas total, take Burakovsky (-120) to finish OVER 0.5 points versus the Blues.
