XFL Semifinals Preview

26 April 2023 By Cole Paganelli

The XFL regular season is now over, and there are four teams competing for a chance to win the XFL championship. The two semifinal games are set to take place this weekend, and they should be a couple of good matchups.

There is just one game taking place on Saturday, and the other semifinal is slated for Sunday. The two winners will then meet up next weekend for a one-game showdown to determine the league champion.

Here is a look at each of the two semifinal games, with a Dunkel pick and prediction for each matchup.

Arlington Renegades at Houston Roughnecks

The Houston Roughnecks host the Arlington Renegades on Saturday, and the home team is a 6.5-point betting favorite in this game. This will be the third meeting of the year between the in-state rivals, and Houston dominated both of the first two meetings.

Arlington comes into this game having lost four of their last five games, and they are limping into the postseason. The Renegades are a team that doesn’t do a ton of scoring on offense, and they are only in the playoffs because they found a way to create a ton of turnovers.

Houston is a team that can put points on the board in a hurry, especially when it comes to the passing attack. The Roughnecks had little trouble against Arlington in the regular season, and they will be using the same formula in this matchup.

The Renegades should be able to keep this game close for a half, but that’s about all that you can expect in this matchup. Houston just has so many weapons on offense, and they are going to win this game by double-digits to cover the spread.

Seattle Sea Dragons at DC Defenders

The DC Defenders were the best regular season team in the XFL, and they will try to start their run to the championship at home. It will be the Seattle Sea Dragons visiting DC to begin the postseason, and this should definitely be the best game of the playoffs.

Seattle has basically been in postseason mode over the last few weeks, as the Sea Dragons had some serious work to do. This team was able to win four of their last five games to finish with a record of 7-3, and they clinched the final postseason spot on a tiebreaker.

DC only lost one regular season game all year, but they did play in a ton of tight games throughout. The Defenders have had each of the last four games decided by two points or less, and that might not be a good sign.

Both of these teams have been terrific on offense this season, but it is Seattle that is the better defensive team overall. That defense is going to end up being the difference in this game, and you should be thinking upset in this game.

Bet on Seattle to win this game straight up as they will continue their magical run.
