XFL Weekly Preview

06 April 2023 By Ayden Fahlstrom

We have reached Week 8 of the 2023 XFL season, and we now have a pretty clear picture of where each of these teams stand. Only the top four teams in the league are set to make the semifinals, and that means that there are some playoff races heating up as well.

Teams are now playing each other for a second time, and we now have more information to use when trying to make some picks as well. With that in mind, here is a small preview and a Dunkel pick and prediction for each matchup.

Vegas Vipers at St. Louis Battlehawks

The St. Louis Battlehawks host the Vegas Vipers on Saturday afternoon, and the first meeting between these teams wasn’t close. St. Louis rolled to a 29-6 win in that game, and the Battlehawks are seven-point betting favorites in this game.

The Battlehawks have scored at least 20 points in five straight games, and that offense has proven to be tough to stop. Vegas has been wildly inconsistent this season, and it’s hard to see them keeping pace on the road.

Taking St. Louis -7.0 is the way to bet in this matchup.

Arlington Renegades at Orlando Guardians

The 3-4 Arlington Renegades are on the road to face the 1-6 Orlando Guardians on Saturday, and this is a game that could be interesting. The first matchup between these teams resulted in a 10-9 win for the Renegades, but that game was played in Arlington.

Neither Renegades nor Guardians are a very strong team, but Orlando is coming into this game with some serious momentum. The Guardians are the only team to beat DC this season, and that momentum will matter in this game.

Arlington is a 1.5-point favorite on Saturday, but the bet is to take the Guardians moneyline as they come up with a win in this one.

Houston Roughnecks at San Antonio Brahmas

The 4-3 Houston Roughnecks are on the road in San Antonio on Sunday to face the Brahmas in a South Division battle. Houston won the first meeting by nine points, and they are five-point betting favorites in this matchup.

The Roughnecks are trying to figure some things out, though, as they have now dropped three straight games. Houston has been terrible on defense this season, but that shouldn’t matter against San Antonio.

The Brahmas don’t do much scoring on offense, and they are not a good defensive team at all. The bet is to take the Roughnecks by -5.0 as they roll to a double-digit win.

DC Defenders at Seattle Sea Dragons

First place in the North Division is on the line when Seattle hosts DC on Sunday night. The Sea Dragons are 1.5-point betting favorites in this matchup, and this game has the potential to feature a ton of offense.

DC is trying to bounce back after a stunning loss to Orlando, while Seattle has rattled off five straight wins after starting 0-2. The Sea Dragons should enjoy a nice boost from their home crowd, but it will take more than that to win this game.

The Defenders might have lost last weekend, but this team has proven to be the best team in the league. Bet on the DC Defenders moneyline as they beat Seattle for a second time this season.
