NHL Rankings | The Dunkel Index

We moved to Hump Day, and there are six teams left in the National Hockey League postseason. Two teams have moved to the third round, and two more teams are just a win away. Let’s take a look at the latest series rundowns and how they reflect the most recent Dunkel Index NHL rankings. See them here!

2. Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche were unbeatable in their first six games of the postseason. Colorado won 11 straight games, dating back to the end of the regular season, and through two games in the 2nd round. Recently though, the Avalanche have fallen on hard times and lost three straight. Now, Colorado has their backs to the wall as they trail in the series 3-2 to Vegas. The Avalanche have seen their top line get slowed down after bursting on the scene. The Avalanche finished the regular season 2nd in the rankings.

3. Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights are one win away from claiming the Honda West Division title. Vegas has climbed back with back-to-back home wins and then an overtime thriller in Colorado to lead the series 3-2. Marc-Andre Fleury continues to be dynamite between the pipes for Vegas. Mark Stone picked up the game-winner in the Game 5 win and was one of the top offensive threats for Vegas all season. It should be fun to see this series end, and the winner will get Montreal in Round 3.

4. Tampa Bay Lightning

The defending Stanley Cup Champions are halfway back home. Tampa Bay took care of a very good Florida team in the first round that finished the regular season 5th in the rankings. Then, in the most recent round - Tampa beat the Carolina Hurricanes in five games. Carolina was the top-ranked team at the end of the season. The Lightning will be the #2 seed in the Final Four of the postseason and will likely get the winner of the Bruins and Islanders series, with a chance to head to the Stanley Cup Finals.

10. Boston Bruins

The Bruins are now down 3-2 in the series and will have to win on the road on Wednesday to get back home. Boston looked great in the first round over Washington and started well in this series. Now, doubt is starting to creep in while their opponents are gaining a ton of confidence. The top line for Boston will need to be a little more perfect if they want to win back-to-back games and get a shot at Tampa Bay.

12. New York Islanders

The Islanders, a team that struggled offensive for much of the season, are just one win away from the “Final Four” in the quest to win the Stanley Cup. The Islanders have picked up their play and will look to get Boston on their toes in the Game 6 affair at home. The Islanders wrapped up the regular season and were ranked 12th.

18. Montreal Canadiens

There is no one hotter in the National Hockey League right now than the Montreal Canadiens. After trailing 3-1 in the series to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal has now won 7 straight games. The Canadiens made quick and easy work of the Winnipeg Jets in the second round with four straight wins. Montreal knows they will be the last seed out of four remaining when the third round starts.
