National Hockey League Rankings

The quest for Lord’s Stanley Cup is underway. The postseason has been very solid with a bunch of overtime action during the first week. Keep that up through the summer, and we are going to have some very pleased and exhausted hockey fans. We will break down the final regular season Dunkel Index Rankings, as the postseason keeps rolling along, and give an update on how the series is going. Be sure to check out the full rankings here.

West Division

Colorado Avalanche vs. St. Louis Blues

Colorado won the opening game on Monday. Now, the Blues will look to steal a road win in Wednesday’s affair. The Avalanche made the Blues look like an AHL team throughout a majority of Game 1. This could be a quick series. The Avalanche finished the regular season at #2, while St. Lois came in at #16.

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild pulled a road upset in Game 1 with a 1-0 overtime win. Vegas needed to find ways to score, and got them in the bounce back on Tuesday. Vegas scored three goals, and played good defense once again. Now the series is tied heading to Minnesota. Vegas ended the regular season at #3, while Minnesota is at #6.

Central Division

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Nashville Predators

Think the fans in Carolina are starving for some postseason success? That place was bonkers on Monday. Look for more of that on Wednesday. Do the Predators stand a chance in this series? I guess we will find out as we move along. The Hurricanes are the top team in the rankings, while Nashville settled in at #14.

Florida Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Poor Florida Panthers. Have an incredible regular season, and have to face state rival and defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The defending cup champions are off to a great start, winning both games on the road to start the season. Florida came into the postseason 5th in the rankings, while the Lightning are just ahead of them at 4th.

East Division

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Islanders

After the Islanders picked up a road overtime win on Monday, the Penguins needed Game 2. They got it, and now they have an even series. These two teams are going to be neck and neck all series. Pittsburgh finished with 77 points, and 7th in the rankings, while the Islanders are 12th with 71 points. Not much difference here.

Washington Capitals vs. Boston Bruins

Another series of neck and neck. Washington with 77 points and the Bruins with 73 points. Who is the favorite? No one really knows. The Capitals won Game 1, and the Bruins won Game 2. Will that continue when the series moves to Boston for Game 3 on Wednesday? Washington is 9th and the Bruins are 10th in the final rankings.

North Division

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens

These two teams will not start their best of 7 series until Thursday. The North is late to the party due to many games being pushed back due to COVID-19. Toronto finished the season at 35-14-7, and was good enough for 8th in the rankings. Montreal is the second to last ranked team to make the postseason and at #18.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets

The Oilers and Jets will get their party started on Wednesday night. This should be a fun series, and many are excited to see Connor McDavid play in the postseason again. The Oilers finished 13th, while the Jets finished as the lowest ranked team in the postseason, at 19.
