MLB Dunkel Rankings RUNDOWN: Giants Stay on Top

It’s Monday once again and that means it is time to take a look at the latest MLB rankings from Dunkel. There are some changes throughout the rankings this week, but the top spot still belongs to the San Francisco Giants.

San Francisco is the first team in baseball to 50 wins this season, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. The NL West is the best division in baseball, but the Giants look to be the best of the bunch.

The Houston Astros are next on the list in this week’s version of the rankings. Houston now looks like the favorite to win the American League, but there is still plenty of time remaining in the season.

Following the Astros is the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team that just took three out of four games from the Chicago Cubs. Los Angeles can’t seem to beat the San Diego Padres, but they are not having any trouble beating any other teams in the National League.

The San Diego Padres have slipped to the sixth spot this week, but this is a team that has spent some time at the top of the list this season. San Diego is still going to be a factor in the NL Playoffs, but they have to reach the postseason first.

Boston and Tampa Bay are now fourth and fifth on the list respectively, and those two teams continue to battle it out for the top spot in the AL East. This is another tough division, but these teams are standing out above the rest. 

Chicago Teams Going Wrong Direction

There appears to be a clear gap between the top six teams and then the rest of the league. There is also plenty of shuffling going on, and a pair of teams from the Windy City are headed in the wrong direction.

The White Sox check-in at the number eight spot this week and things have not gone well for the Southsiders over the last few weeks. Chicago still holds a slim lead in the AL Central Division, but injuries are starting to add up.

The Cubs threw a combined no-hitter on Thursday night to beat the Dodgers, but that was about the only positive to come from the week. Chicago has slipped to number 12 on this week’s rankings and a big series in Milwaukee looms.

Speaking of the Brewers, they are the hottest team in baseball at this time and they have jumped all the way up to number 9 on the list. 

Miserable Month For D-Backs

July can’t come soon enough for the Arizona Diamondbacks as this has been one miserable month of June. Arizona has been an absolute disaster on the road, and life at home has not been much better.

Arizona is still the 30th ranked team this week, and there isn’t much competition for that final spot. The Baltimore Orioles are holding on to the 29th spot, but they are still much better than the Diamondbacks.
