Major League Baseball Rankings

Happy Memorial Day! Also - happy end of May! We are rolling into June with Major League Baseball. Today, we are going to do something a little different. While we understand things change in Major League Baseball, and it’s a long season, but today’s recap is ONLY going to look at those teams that would be in the postseason if the playoffs started TODAY! National League Wildcard: Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants

The Giants have been a pleasant surprise this season and are just ½ game behind San Diego for the best record in all of Major League Baseball. The Giants just finished winning three straight over the Dodgers. This would be quite the matchup and relatively realistic. The three teams at the top of the National League West are going to lap the bottom two teams, and not sure there will be another team from the East or Central keep up. In the latest rankings, the Dodgers come in at #6, while the Giants sit at #3.

National League #3: New York Mets at National League #2: St. Louis Cardinals

Despite having the fourth-best record in the National League, the Cardinals would end up the #2 seed in the postseason. The two wildcard teams, despite better records, would be punished for being in the same division as #1. This series would be interesting with Jacob DeGrom going as many times as humanly possible and taking on an offense with Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt. The Cardinals are going to have to fend off the Cubs, but certainly going to be in the picture as the season moves along. The Cardinals are #8 while the Mets are #12 in the latest rankings.

National League Top Seed: San Diego Padres

Slam Diego would get the winner of the Dodgers and Padres. This team is well-rounded. Great offensive firepower, and have seen great starting pitching. The National League West is going to be wild in the final weeks of the season. San Diego has moved into the Dunkel Index top spot.

American League Wildcard:  Cleveland Indians at Boston Red Sox

These are two teams that we are a little surprised to see in this game. They have NOT had the talent the last few years, but they are rebuilding a bit. Cleveland sent several guys out the last few seasons, and Boston obviously made that choice letting Mookie Betts go. But, both teams continue to play solid baseball. The Red Sox are just a game behind Tampa in the AL East, and Cleveland is +5 over .500. The Red Sox are #3 in the Dunkel Index rankings, while Cleveland is #13.

American League #3: Oakland Athletics at American League #2: Chicago White Sox

The Athletics and White Sox would certainly be an interesting first-round matchup. Tony LaRussa has his White Sox playing solid baseball despite all the drama inside and outside of the clubhouse. The Athletics do what they do best, and that’s playing hard baseball and winning games. The Athletics come into the rankings at #7, while the White Sox are #5.

American League Top Seed: Tampa Bay Rays

No team has been hotter in Major League Baseball in the last two weeks than the Tampa Bay Rays. They are a lot like Oakland, as they just win games. The Rays will challenge both Boston and the Yankees during the final weeks of the season. Tampa Bay has moved to #2 in the most recent rankings.

There you have it. Just 4 months left of the season and time to talk postseason.
