CFL Week 8 Betting Preview

We have reached Week 8 of the 2023 CFL season, and it’s been a terrific start to the year. There have been some big storylines that have developed throughout the year, and there has been some big drama as well.

The playoff races are really going to start heating up in each division over the next few weeks as every team is trying to make a run. That will put more pressure on every game, and it should lead to more excitement. 

Here is a look at each of the Week 8 CFL games, with a Dunkel pick and prediction for each matchup as well. 

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Ottawa Redblacks

The 2-4 Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the 3-3 Ottawa Redblacks in what should be an interesting matchup in the East Division. Ottawa is a 3.5-point betting favorite in this matchup, and they appear to be playing much better overall.

Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was back on the practice field this week for Hamilton, but he is not expected to play in this game. The Tiger-Cats just haven’t been able to score enough points this season, and that will be their problem in this game as well.

The pick is to take Ottawa at -3.5 as they win this game by double-digits. 

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Toronto Argonauts

The Toronto Argonauts are the only undefeated team remaining in the CFL, but they have only played five games. Toronto will face the 3-3 Roughriders this weekend, and the Argonauts are huge 10.5-point betting favorites. 

Saskatchewan is a team that has played better than their record would suggest, but they also still have plenty to prove. The Roughriders can keep this game close for a while, but Toronto is simply loaded with weapons.

Bet on the Toronto Argonauts at -10.5 as they roll to another huge victory.

BC Lions at Edmonton Elks

The 0-7 Edmonton Elks look to break a long losing streak at home when they take on the 5-1 BC Lions in this game. As expected, BC is a nine-point betting favorite despite being on the road, and the Lions have been extremely impressive this season.

Edmonton is going to win a game at some point this season, but this is not a matchup that is very favorable for them. BC has been solid on both sides of the football this season, and they are going to roll to a win by 20 points in this game. 

Calgary Stampeders at Montreal Alouettes

The 2-4 Calgary Stampeders visit the 2-3 Montreal Alouettes in Week 8, and both of these teams have underachieved a bit this season. The outside metrics would suggest that both teams should be over .500, but they have each struggled to finish games. 

Montreal is a slim 2.5-point betting favorite in this game, and they should be rested as they are coming off of a bye. Calgary has had a number of close losses this season, but at some point, they have to prove they can win.

The bet to make is to take the Alouettes at -2.5, as they will find a way to pick up a much-needed victory.
