WNBA Power Rankings
24 June 2021

It has been a rather quiet week within the WNBA, but things are still progressing. In the power rankings, this week compared to last, everything will pretty much be the same. One new team will slot in thanks to four mentions rather than three, but that is pretty much it.
So, let’s roll. Working backwards this week.
4) Washington Mystics
When you have the chance to acquire a player like Tina Charles, you do it. Averaging a career-high 26 points per game, she has her team with a winning record to this point in the year. That is not an easy feat to just score and guide your team like that.
She has gotten some help from Ariel Atkins (18.3 ppg), who will represent Team USA in the 3X3 competition in the Summer Olympics. That will only be another place for her to showcase what she has.
After going 9-13 with a quick playoff exit in the 2020 bubble, it’s good to see the Mystics looking better.
3) Connecticut Sun
Another week, another space that exists to praise the Sun. The basketball team, of course, and not the thing that warms the entire planet that humans inhabit. Connecticut is atop the East through the first 14 games played, and it’s a great thing to see.
DeWanna Bonner and Jonquel Jones have continued to play very good basketball to help this team continue to pick up key wins. There are a number of key three-point threats, and while they barely rank inside the top-10, they can hit plenty of shots from downtown.
Look for the Sun to stay hot in the next week and to remain high on the list.
2) Las Vegas Aces
Shoutout to Las Vegas, honestly. Basketball has been so much fun to see there; the team being back on its home floor this year a nice thing after nobody could do so in 2020. This is a team filled with a lot of young stars and several #1 overall picks.
Kelsey Plum is still coming off the bench but is averaging 13 points per game. She’s all the way back and will join the earlier mentioned Ariel Atkins in the 3X3 competition in the Olympics. With Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson, they have two great scorers and playmakers. And of course, Cambage is in there to protect the paint.
The Aces want a title. They lost in the semis last year. Maybe it’ll be different now.
1) Seattle Storm
As if it would come as any shock. Another week where Seattle is at the top of the list. There are so many great talents here, with a nice mix of youth and veterans. The difference makers when all is said and done are Breanna Stewart and 41-year-old Sue Bird.
Bird is still dropping dimes effectively, while Stewart is dominating on both ends of the floor. Wherever she goes, rings and championships follow. This is true at all levels of the game.
They have a real chance to win another title. And while some hoop fans clamor for an NBA team to come to Seattle saying no team exists, the Storm remain on top for another week.
