WM Phoenix Open 2023 Betting Preview

08 February 2023 By Ryan Knuppel

The Super Bowl is not the only major sporting event set to be played in the state of Arizona this weekend, as Phoenix will host the 2023 WM Phoenix Open. This is always an event that is extremely popular with the fans, and that should be the case yet again.

There is a loaded group of players set to tee it up as well, and that should set up for a great final round of action if things go the right way. Betting on any golf event is never easy, but it can be even harder when so many of the top players in the world are hitting the links.

A big name is the current betting favorite to win the WM Phoenix Open, but you are also going to see plenty of other big names right behind him.

McIlroy Tabbed As Betting Favorite

Heading to Phoenix, Rory McIlroy has been dubbed the favorite as he has odds set at +800. McIlroy has spent a large portion of his career being a betting favorite, but Jon Rahm (+850) is right behind him this weekend.

There are usually some surprising names near the top of the leaderboard when it comes to golf odds, but you aren't going to see that this weekend. Following up McIlroy and Rahm is a who's who list of top golfers.

You are going to see the following odds listed when it comes to betting on the WM Phoenix Open:

  • Xander Schauffele +1400
  • Scottie Scheffler +1500
  • Tony Finau +1800
  • Collin Morikawa +1800
  • Patrick Cantlay +2100
  • Justin Thomas +2100
  • Max Homa +2100
  • Sungjae Im +2700
  • Viktor Hovland +2700
  • Hideki Matsuyama +2800

Previous Winners

One thing that can help when making picks for the WM Phoenix Open is to check out the list of previous winners. This hasn't been an event that has been one by surprising golfers often, as the top golfers tend to play well at this event.

Scottie Scheffler is the reigning champion of this event, as he shot a final score of -22 under par a season ago. Brooks Koepka won the event in 2021, and he was only able to win the championship by just one stroke.

In fact, the last three tournaments played at this event have been decided by one stroke or less. Hideki Matsuyama has also had plenty of success at this event, winning the championship in both 2016 and 2017.

Im Takes Control

When all is said and done for the final round, you are going to see some great golfers battling it out for the top spot. This should be an event in which the players score well also, and that's going to create plenty of drama as well.

It's hard to bet against McIlroy with how well he has been playing, but he's not going to get the job done in Phoenix. Instead, you should be looking at a player with more valuable odds as he will come through in the clutch.

It is going to be Sungjae Im that puts together four solid rounds of golf this weekend to win the 2023 WM Phoenix Open.
