WGC Invitational Betting Preview

$1.18M is on the line for the first place winner this weekend, as the top golfers in the world move to Memphis Tennessee for the WGC Invitational. This is the second year for this event, after many years as St. Jude Invitational. Dustin Johnson has done well here in the past, but his struggles last week have many questioning who will take down the title for this weekend. This should be a fun event, with literally all the top golfers in action. Let’s take a look at a few guys that we like in the betting world for the 2020 WGC Invitational

Rory Mcllroy +1100

While there is no cut here, this guy has been a model of consistency. He has reached the weekend in every event, and been inside the Top 10, 60% of the time. Rory is coming off the Memorial where he did not have a strong final day, and it dropped him down the standings a bit. Rory has not won an event since October, but that only makes him that much more due.

Justin Thomas +1200

You want to talk about stud on the golf course. Justin Thomas is another guy that just continues to shine no matter where he plays. His 2 over 74 on the final day at the Memorial was good enough for an 18th place finish. Thomas last win came in January, but his 2nd place finish in early July shows he can and will still compete at the top of the leaderboard.

Xander Schauffele +2200

A little further down the line, we move to the X-Man. Schauffele is coming off back to back Top 15 finishes. Xander finished 3rd back in June at the Charles Schwab Challenge. This should be a pretty fun course for him to navigate through. Can he compete at a high level all four days is where the questions come into play.

Jon Rahm +1100

The top golfer in the world right now. One of the betting favorites. The top priced golfer in your Daily Fantasy Sports gold contests. He shot a 75 on the final day at the Memorial, and still came away a winner. That was due in large part to his outstanding first three days. Continuing that momentum is going to be difficult, with all the challenges the course brings to the table for the Spainiard.

Others to Consider

Webb Simpson +2200

Simpson won the RBC Heritage, and since then has finished 8th at the Rocket Mortgage and missed the cut at the Memorial. Simpson has 7 Top 10 finishes this season under his belt.

Tyrrell Hatton +2800

A relative unknown on the PGA Tour, as he has played just 6 events this season. 5 of them have resulted in a Top 10 finish, including the win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Hatton is coming off a 3rd place and 4th place finish in his last two events this summer.

Dustin Johnson +2800

What is going on with DJ? That’s the million dollar question. After winning the Travelers Championship, he has been awful the last two events. 126th and 156th are his finishes. So his recent form is a major question mark. Johnson is a two time winner at this course, with titles back in 2012 and 2018.

Daniel Berger +2800

Also a two time winner. Back to back in 2016 and 2017 at this course. After five straight events finishing inside the Top 10, Berger missed the cut at the Memorial. His bounce back game has always been strong, which makes him a pretty good candidate for betting on as a slight “dark horse”.

Memphis is going to be rocking this weekend, despite no fans. The best golfers in the world for four days. We look forward to the event, and hope to take down some money!
