West Virginia Mountaineers at Oklahoma Sooners Betting Preview
25 September 2021
The Oklahoma Sooners host the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday night for one of the best Big 12 Conference games of the weekend. This conference race is expected to be wide open, and every league game will be important for each team.
West Virginia got off to a slow start to the season, but the Mountaineers have picked up two straight wins. This team just pulled off an upset win over Virginia Tech in Week 3, and that should give them some confidence.
Oklahoma has won all three games to begin the 2021 season, and they have done so in dominating fashion. The Sooners were tested a bit in a win over Nebraska, but this will be by far their toughest challenge of the young season.
The Oklahoma Sooners are 16.5-point favorites over the West Virginia Mountaineers in this Big 12 showdown.
Mountaineers Must Control Clock
If West Virginia is going to find a way to pull off this upset on Saturday night, then they have to control the tempo and win the time of possession battle. There are few teams in the country that can keep up with the Oklahoma offense, and West Virginia isn’t one of them.
Running back, Leddie Brown has rushed for 265 yards and five touchdowns this season, and he will be a major key in this game. West Virginia needs a solid game from quarterback Jarret Doege, but it will be the rushing attack that is the most important.
The West Virginia defense will also need to play well, especially in the secondary. West Virginia is allowing just 17 points per game, but keeping Oklahoma under 30 might be a goal in this one.
Rattler Rallying the Sooners
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler is one of the best players in college football, and he has the Sooners scoring over 46 points per game. The Sooners feature a balanced offensive attack, but Rattler is the player that makes everything go.
Rattler has thrown for 761 yards and seven touchdowns this season, but he can also take off and run with the football. Trying to slow down the star QB will be a priority for the Mountaineers, but that is easier said than done.
Oklahoma is going to give up some points, but that unit has actually been playing well this season. The Sooners will try to speed up the tempo on Saturday night as they have more weapons on each side of the ball.
Oklahoma Wins, West Virginia Battles
The Oklahoma Sooners just have so much firepower on offense, and they will eventually be able to wear down the West Virginia defense. The Mountaineers won’t allow many big plays in this game, and that will keep this game close throughout.
The problem for West Virginia is that they don’t run the ball well, and they are facing a solid run defense. Extending drives is going to be a problem for the visitors on Saturday night, and that will keep West Virginia from pulling off the upset.
This game won’t get out of hand, but ultimately the Sooners will be able to pick up another solid victory. Take the 16.5 points and bet on the West Virginia Mountaineers, but it will be Oklahoma that picks up the victory.
