Week 11 CFL Preview

14 October 2021

Week 11 of the CFL regular season is here, and we are nearing the playoffs. We went 3-1 against the spread last week and are ready to go perfect this time around with three games on tap. Here are our picks at Dunkel Index!

OCTOBER 15:

Winnipeg at Edmonton

  • Time: 9:00 pm ET
  • Dunkel Ratings: Winnipeg 120.790; Edmonton 109.762
  • Dunkel Line & Total: Winnipeg by 11; 39
  • Vegas Line & Total: Winnipeg by 13 ½; 43 ½
  • Dunkel Pick: Edmonton (+13 ½); Under

Although Winnipeg is far and away the best team in the CFL, getting 13.5 points in the CFL is too good to pass up. “No Lead Is Safe” has always been the mantra in Canadian Football, and backdoor covers are all too common.

The Elks have benched Trevor Harris in favour of former Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius. The 26-year-old will be in tough against the best defense in the CFL, but we think the Bombers are favoured by too much in this matchup, so taking Edmonton +13.5 is worth a play.

OCTOBER 16:

Montreal at Ottawa

  • Time: 4:00 pm ET
  • Dunkel Ratings: Montreal 111.424; Ottawa 100.138
  • Dunkel Line & Total: Montreal by 11 ½; 43
  • Vegas Line & Total: Montreal by 5 ½; 45 ½
  • Dunkel Pick: Montreal (-5 ½); Under

Montreal won the battle last week against Ottawa, thanks to an unsung hero. Vernon Adams Jr. was injured in the final minutes of the fourth quarter in the Alouettes 20-16 win, but Butler product Matthew Shiltz came in and led an impressive game-winning drive.

Running back Cameron Artis-Payne also rushed 22 times for 122 yards in William Stanback’s absence. Montreal is a motivated team that remains in the playoff picture, while Ottawa is completely out of it and is simply playing for pride at this point. We have Montreal projected as double-digit favourites in this game, so taking them at -5.5 is a great value play.

Calgary at BC

  • Time: 7:00 pm ET
  • Dunkel Ratings: Calgary 116.496; BC 110.536
  • Dunkel Line & Total: Calgary by 6; 48
  • Vegas Line & Total: Pick; 44 ½
  • Dunkel Pick: Calgary; Over

Despite coming off a bye week, the Lions are a reeling team that is coming back down to earth. Meanwhile, Calgary has won two in a row against a very tough opponent in Saskatchewan. Running back Ka’Deem Carey also rejuvenated the Stamps ground game and could be a difference-maker against a Lions defense that will be focused on containing quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell.

Lucky Whitehead has been the best player on the Lions this season, and his absence due to broken fingers suffered in BC’s last game will prove costly. QB Mike Reilly has been under siege all season long, and the Leos offensive line has helped stall drives. This game is listed as a pick’em, but we have Calgary as clear favorites. Take them to win outright on Saturday in Vancouver.
