Washington Nationals at Baltimore Orioles Betting Preview/Prop Picks
21 June 2022
The series between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles are set to start today. The Nationals, with a record of 24-46, are looking for a slight glimmer of hope.
Their most recent game was a 9-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. That win broke up an eight-game losing streak that they’ll try to avoid. However, beating the Orioles isn’t an easy task to complete.
The Baltimore Orioles have a record of 30-38 this season, ranking fifth in the AL East. Over their last five games, the Orioles have won three of them. Yesterday, Baltimore was able to earn a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Now, with the Nationals coming to town, the Orioles will put their bats to the test. We’ll look at each of these teams and see who we think will be the victor.
Washington Nationals: Nationals have batting locked down
The area where the Nationals do the best is at the plate. This season, the Nationals have batted .254 as a team, ranking fifth overall in Major League Baseball. With such a strong statistic, you would think it would result in more wins.
However, pitching is a big problem for them and something we’ll likely see continue. They’ll hope that their starter tonight can help, even slightly.
On the mound for the Nationals, today is Erick Fedde, who is 4-5 as a starter. Fedde has an ERA of 4.88 this season after pitching 62.2 innings. Although his ERA isn’t the worst, it’s definitely not the best.
Again the Nationals will have to rely on their batters to do the heavy lifting. They’ll just have to hope that it’ll be enough against the Baltimore Orioles bullpen.
Baltimore Orioles: No pitcher has been named as the starter
The Orioles could be holding onto this information for some time. So, we’ll look at each of their normal starters and see who the likely starter is. The last time Dean Kremer pitched was four days ago, so he could be a likely starter.
Kremer has a solid ERA of 2.35 this season after pitching 15.1 innings. It’s also good that Kremer is fresh; he could have a solid outing tonight.
At the plate is where the Orioles seem to struggle the most, opposite of the Nationals. As a team, Baltimore is batting .230, ranking 26th overall. In terms of runs, the Orioles rank 22nd in MLB with only 278.
Playing the Nationals is going to be tough, especially if Washington starts scoring early. Still, the advantages in this game go mostly in the direction of Baltimore.
Washington Nationals at Baltimore Orioles Betting Pick
When looking at each of these teams, a few key points stand out. For the Nationals, it’s the fact that their pitching has been really bad this season.
It’s also worth it to note that they have a record of 12-20 when traveling. They’ve struggled lately as well, winning just two of their last ten games. With that being said, the better pick here is the Baltimore Orioles.
Baltimore has a better bullpen and rotation to choose from. Although their batting isn’t great, it’s definitely not going to prevent them from winning this one.
Through their last three games against the Nationals, the Orioles have averaged 5.33 runs. Look for Baltimore to win this game and for the total to go over.
