Washington Commanders at Chicago Bears Betting Preview
13 October 2022

Both the Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears are in a tough position. The Commanders, with a record of 1-4, might have to decide to bench QB Carson Wentz.
Wentz hasn't been good this year, and he has no shortage of targets on his team. No moves have been announced yet, but if the Commanders lose for the fifth time, there could be.
The Chicago Bears are another team that has somewhat fallen apart. Their offense is out of sync, and their defense has had its moments as well.
After losing two games in a row, they'll now host the Washington Commanders. Although this will likely prove to be a better matchup for them, it won't be an easy game. Let's take a look at each team and make our pick.
Washington Commanders: A loss would mark their fifth in a row
In our opinion, the Washington Commanders need a massive overhaul. They've struggled to move the ball down the field, and their defense needs a lot of work.
Carson Wentz has thrown six interceptions over the course of just five games. Last week, they lost 21-17 to the Tennessee Titans due to poor run defense. Needless to say, this team won't be making the playoffs.
On average, the Commanders put up 18 points per game, ranking 26th in the league. They allow an average of 25.6 points per game, one of the worst defenses in points allowed.
Now, as they prepare to face the Chicago Bears, their eyes need to be on Justin Fields. If they can't find a way to stop Fields, they'll lose this game. The trouble is, Fields is a very elusive quarterback.
Chicago Bears: Fields needs free range to run the offense
The Chicago Bears need to run their offense much faster for it to be successful. At the moment, the team is relying too heavily on Fields' arm talent. Instead, they should be taking advantage of what he can do with his legs.
Last week, in their 29-22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Fields led the team in rushing. Although it was only 47 yards, he was able to get first downs with his legs.
On defense, the Bears allow an average of 21.2 points per game. This is around the league average, so their defense isn't bad. Giving Fields the reigns to run the offense would instantly increase this team's chances.
They average 157.4 rushing yards per game, ranking fifth in the NFL. Expect a lot from Fields and running back David Montgomery in tonight's game.
Washington Commanders at Chicago Bears Betting Pick
The Chicago Bears are sitting at 2-2-1 against the spread this season. When playing at home, they have a 1-0-1 record against the spread.
This offense has had a lot of troubles, especially since they're struggling to find an identity. They even had the lead over Minnesota but couldn't close out the game. Because of this, we don't trust them at the sportsbook.
The Commanders aren't the best team against the spread, either. They have a 1-4 record against the spread to match their regular season record.
However, this game could be the deciding factor for Carson Wentz. If he can't beat the Bears, there's a chance he's on the bench next week.
