Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Preview/Player Prop

01 November 2021

Another week of NHL hockey will kick off on Monday night with a terrific matchup between teams from the Eastern Conference. The Tampa Bay Lightning host the Washington Capitals in what should be a playoff preview.

Washington has gotten off to a great start to the year as they are 5-0-3 for 13 total points. The Capitals have gone just 2-2 in their last four games but did pick up a 2-0 win over Arizona in their most recent matchup.

Tampa Bay has won two straight games, but the two-time defending champions have started off slow. The Lightning are just 4-3-1 on the year, but they should be one of the best teams in the NHL yet again this season.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are the moneyline favorites at -147 over the Washington Capitals.

Stars Showing Up For Capitals

The Washington Capitals have a veteran team, and it has been a pair of stars that has led the way during the fast start. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alexander Ovechkin have done most of the scoring, but this team is loaded with weapons.

Kuznetsov leads the Capitals with seven assists, while Ovechkin has a team-high nine goals and 15 points. Washington comes into Monday night averaging 3.75 goals per game, and they will be looking to play fast in this one.

The Capitals have also been great on the defensive end of the ice as they are allowing just 2.38 goals per game. Washington will need to be solid in both areas to beat the Lightning on Monday night.

Lightning Letting Teams Score

Tampa Bay has been so dominant over the last two seasons that it was hard to find a real flaw with the team. This year the Lightning are allowing 3.38 goals per game, and they will have to improve on that as the season moves along.

The penalty kill for Tampa Bay has still been strong as they are killing off over 85 percent of their own miscues. Tampa Bay is only scoring 3.25 goals per game at this time, but this team can be explosive as well.

Steven Stamkos has led the way for Tampa Bay this season with 12 total points. Defenseman Victor Hedman has once again put up big numbers, leading the team with eight assists.

Tampa Bay Too Much For Washington

Even though the Lightning have not gotten off to a great start this season, this team still does so much right on each end of the ice. Washington has the talent to score goals on anyone, but Tampa Bay will look to slow down the pace on Monday night.

There is a championship pedigree on both of these teams, and that will make for a highly-competitive hockey game on Monday. In the end, playing one home ice will allow the Lightning to pull away and earn a comfortable win.

Bet the Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 as the home team wins this game by at least two goals on Monday night.

Player Prop

Alex Ovechkin (+125) To Score A Goal

Ovechkin may be 36 years old now, but he’s playing like a kid half his age. Now in his 17th season, the Capitals captain has recorded a point in eight straight games to start the season for the first time in his career.

His 15 points also puts just one point behind Connor McDavid for most points in the league, while his nine goals is the league leader. The last time Ovi started out this hot was 2009-2010 when he finished with 109 points in only 72 games played.

In the one game he’s already played against Tampa Bay, he picked up the Caps’ lone goal in a 2-1 loss in overtime. In this star-studded matchup tonight, we’ll look for Washington’s star to continue to shine and take Ovechkin (+125) to score a goal against the Lightning.
