Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

23 September 2021

The Virginia Cavaliers host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Friday night for a key matchup in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Neither of these teams is going to win the ACC this season, but a win in this game would provide a big boost to the bowl resume for each team.

Wake Forest comes into this game with a perfect 3-0 record, and that includes a blowout win over Florida State. The Demon Deacons still aren’t getting a ton of respect, but a win on Friday night would do just that.

Virginia was 2-0 heading into Week 3, but the Cavaliers suffered a 59-39 loss to North Carolina a week ago. The Cavaliers will be looking to regroup in a hurry, and they have always been a tough team to beat on their home field.

The Virginia Cavaliers are four-point favorites over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Friday night at Scott Stadium.

Demon Deacons Can Defend

Wake Forest is allowing just 13.3 points per game this season, and they have been particularly tough against the run. The Demon Deacons won’t have to worry about the run as much in this matchup, but that secondary is going to be tested.

Running back Christian Beal-Smith has been the best offensive weapon for Wake Forest in this game, racking up 229 yards and four touchdowns. Virginia is a team that will be giving up some rushing yards, and Beal-Smith can keep Wake Forest in this.

Wake Forest is going to have to take some shots down the field, and hitting on some pass plays would allow the Demon Deacons to pull off this upset.

Virginia Wants to Throw

Virginia is averaging more than 41 points per game this season, and much of that damage has been done through the air. The Cavaliers are throwing it for close to 440 yards per game, and they will be attacking the Wake Forest secondary in this game.

Quarterback Brennan Armstrong has thrown for 1,298 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, and his name is getting thrown into the Heisman Trophy conversation. Running the football hasn’t come as easy for Virginia, and that could be a problem in this game.

Virginia’s defense was great for two weeks, but then it allowed 59 points to North Carolina a week ago. This unit will need to play much better on Friday night if Virginia is going to win.

Cavaliers Cruise to Victory

Even though Wake Forest comes into this game with an undefeated record, they haven’t really been tested up to this point. The defense has been setting the tone for the Demon Deacons, but they are going to be facing an explosive Virginia attack in this game.

The Cavaliers weren’t able to hang with North Carolina in Week 3, but the offense still put up an impressive performance in that loss. The defense should play much better against Wake Forest as they won’t have to deal with as many playmakers.

Playing at home will give Virginia a big boost on Friday night, and that is the only advantage that they need. Bet the Virginia Cavaliers -4.0 over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as the home team rolls to a double-digit win on Friday night.
