USFL Weekly Preview

We have reached Week 6 of the USFL season, and it’s to put into words just how competitive the action has been all season long. Every team has at least two wins this season, and only three teams have been able to get to at least three wins. 

With so much balance between the teams in the league, you should expect to see another great week of action. Here is a look at each of the USFL Week 6 matchups, and a Dunkel pick and prediction is included for each matchup. 

Pittsburgh Maulers at Memphis Showboats

The Pittsburgh Maulers visit the Memphis Showboats on Saturday for a matchup of 2-3 teams. The winner of this game will take a huge step towards reaching the postseason, and it’s the road team that is a 2,5-point betting favorite. 

The Maulers have been playing in close games all season long, and they are a play or two away from being a 4-1 team. Memphis is a team that doesn’t always play well on the defensive side of the ball, and that is going to be a big problem in this game. 

The Showboats will keep this game close for a while, but taking the Pittsburgh Maulers are -2.5 is the way to go. 

Birmingham Stallions at Michigan Panthers

The 3-2 Birmingham Stallions travel to Michigan to take on the Panthers in Week 6, and the road team is a six-point betting favorite. Home field advantage hasn’t really played a role so far in the USFL, but the Panthers will be trying to use the crowd to give them a boost. 

Birmingham is the highest-scoring team in the USFL through five weeks, and that offense has been able to score points in a hurry. Michigan hasn’t been great on defense, but they have had some moments in which they have played well. 

Look for the Panthers to keep this game close, but the Stallions win. Take the six points and bet on Michigan on Saturday. 

New Orleans Breakers at Philadelphia Stars

The New Orleans Breakers have the best record in the league at 4-1, and they are taking on the 2-3 Philadelphia Stars on Sunday. The Breakers are eight-point betting favorites on the road, but don’t be surprised to see an upset in this game. 

This is going to be a high-scoring affair as both teams really want to play fast and try to score in this one. Philadelphia has struggled to get stops throughout the year, but playing at home will give them a chance in this game. 

Take the Stars moneyline in this game, as they will pull off the upset over the top team in the league. 

New Jersey Generals at Houston Gamblers

The North Division has all four teams currently sitting at 2-3, and New Jersey is trying to break out of that group. The Generals will be five-point betting favorites on the road against the Houston Gamblers, and this line has felt off since it was announced. 

New Jersey wants to win this game by slowing down the pace, but that’s not easy to do against Houston. The Gamblers are an explosive team, and they will take care of business in this game.
