USFL Weekly Preview

The 2023 USFL season is well underway, as Week 3 is set to begin this weekend. There have already been some great games played throughout the league, and that trend is expected to continue this weekend as well. 

The XFL is starting its playoffs this weekend, but there will still be plenty of attention paid to the USFL this weekend. With four games on the schedule, you will find some good betting opportunities in each game. 

Here is a look at each game, and there is a Dunkel pick and prediction for each as well.

New Orleans Breakers at Birmingham Stallions

The best game of the weekend might be taking place on Saturday as two of the best teams in the league are set to square off. Both the New Orleans Breakers and Birmingham Stallions are 2-0 through two games, and the winner of this game will have some bragging rights.

The Stallions are the highest-scoring team in the league this season, and they have also held opponents to just 12 total points. New Orleans has scored 30 points per game to begin the year, but they don’t always defend well. 

Birmingham is a six-point betting favorite in this matchup, and they are going to roll to a double-digit win.

Memphis Showboats at Houston Gamblers

A pair of 0-2 teams will meet up on Saturday night when the Houston Gamblers host the Memphis Showboats. This is going to be a great chance for each team to pick up an initial win, and it should end up leading to a great game. 

Houston is a slight three-point betting favorite in this matchup, but they continue to look for more defense. Memphis has been outscored by 44 total points through two games, and they haven’t proven that they can do much on offense. 

The best bet to make is to take the three points, but it will be Houston that survives and wins the game.

Pittsburgh Maulers at Philadelphia Stars

The Philadelphia Stars look to move to 2-1 on the regular season when they host the 0-2 Pittsburgh Maulers on Sunday. This is a game that should provide plenty of excitement as these two in-state rivals want to beat each other in a big way. 

Pittsburgh has scored just 18 total points this season, and that’s not going to get the job done at all. Philadelphia got a solid win in the series opener, but things didn’t go well at all for them in Week 2. 

The Stars are 6.5-point betting favorites in this matchup, and that’s about where the final spread will land. Bet on Philadelphia -6.5 as they are able to come away with a nine-point win.

New Jersey Generals at Michigan Panthers

The final game of the weekend should be a huge matchup in the North Division as the 2-0 Michigan Panthers host the 1-1 New Jersey Generals. This feels like a matchup that could end up being close, and Michigan is a slim 4.5-point betting favorite in this one. 

Michigan is a team that wants to play fast and speed up the tempo, and that could be a real challenge for New Jersey. The Generals just don’t have a ton of weapons on offense, and things could become a challenge in this matchup. 

Take the Michigan Panthers -4.5 as they are able to roll to a double-digit victory in this game.
