USFL Weekly Preview

Week 2 of the USFL season is set to take place this weekend after a pretty successful start in the first weekend of the year. There were a couple of games that had some late drama, and some individual performances really stood out. 

Even though this isn’t the top football league in the world, there is still plenty of attention being paid to the league. Here is a look at each of the Week 2 matchups set to take place, and a Dunkel pick and prediction for each of those games.

Houston Gamblers at New Orleans Breakers

The 0-1 Houston Gamblers are on the road to face the 1-0 New Orleans Breakers for a Week 2 matchup. It was a rough start to the season for Houston as they were blown out by Michigan on their home turf.

New Orleans looked sharp in their Week 1 win over Pittsburgh, and getting to 2-0 would be a great start to the 2023 season. This will be a game that won’t feature a ton of points, especially from the visitors. 

The New Orleans Breakers are 5.5-point favorites in this game, and they will win this one by double-digits.

Memphis Showboats at Birmingham Stallions

Memphis will be looking for its first win of the season when they travel to Birmingham to face the 1-0 Stallions. The Showboats suffered a 27-23  loss in the season opener, but they did attempt a comeback that fell just short. 

Birmingham looked terrific in the season opener, as the Stallions had little trouble with the New Jersey Generals. The odds for this game have Birmingham as a 7.5-point betting favorite, and they should have no problem covering the spread in this game as well.

New Jersey Generals at Pittsburgh Maulers

A pair of 0-1 teams meet up on Sunday when the New Jersey Generals visit the Pittsburgh Maulers. It was a rough start for both New Jersey and Pittsburgh, and there might be a bit of desperation setting in already for each team. 

The Generals are actually slim 2.5-point betting favorites on the road in this game, and New Jersey was the best regular-season team in the league a season ago. Pittsburgh went just 1-9 last season, but look for them to get on the board with a win early this year. 

Bet on the Pittsburgh Generals to not only cover the spread but to pick up an outright win at home.

Michigan Panthers at Philadelphia Stars

The best game of the day will take place on Sunday night as the Michigan Panthers travel to Philadelphia to take on the Stars. The spread for this game has Philadelphia as a three-point betting favorite, but things are going to be tight throughout. 

It’s still very early in the season, but both Michigan and Philadelphia look like they could be the best teams in the league. This is going to be a game that features a ton of offense, and there will be no shortage of excitement. 

If you are going to bet on this game, then taking the three points is the way to go, as Michigan is going to keep things close in defeat.
