USFL Week 8 Betting Preview

Week 8 of the USFL season is set to take place this weekend, and it’s starting to get easier to figure out where teams stand in this league. The playoff races continue to tighten up in both divisions, and that is going to make each game that much more important. 

It’s been a terrific seven weeks for the USFL, and things are only going to get better from this point forward. Here is a look at all four of the USFL Week 8 matchups, with a Dunkel pick and prediction for each game. 

Houston Gamblers at Pittsburgh Maulers

The 4-3 Houston Gamblers visit the 2-5 Pittsburgh Maulers on Saturday in what is basically a must-win game for each team. Houston is trying to keep pace in the South Division, while Pittsburgh is just trying to keep playoff hopes alive. 

Moving the ball on offense has been a big challenge for the Maulers this season, and they won’t find much success against the Gamblers’ defense. Houston is a 3.0-point betting favorite on the road, and the pick is for them to cover that spread in a win. 

Philadelphia Stars at Birmingham Stallions

The best game of the weekend should take place in Birmingham on Saturday afternoon as the Stallions host the Philadelphia Stars in a battle of first-place teams. The Stallions have looked like the best team in the league all season, and that is why they are six-point betting favorites. 

Philadelphia is leading the North Division despite having a point difference of -28 total points. The Stars have struggled to get stops all season long, and Birmingham is going to have a big day of offense in this one. 

This game shouldn’t be close for long as Birmingham cruises to a win and covers the six-point spread. 

Memphis Showboats at New Jersey Generals

The 4-3 Memphis Showboats are set to battle the 2-5 New Jersey Generals on Sunday and this game should be better than the record suggests. Both teams have been playing in tight games all season long, and you should expect a similar battle in this game. 

New Jersey has shown flashes of being a great team this season, but they have also struggled to put teams away. Memphis has been able to come up with clutch plays to win games, but that’s not going to happen in this matchup. 

The Generals are a two-point betting favorite for a reason and they take control to win this matchup.

Michigan Panthers at New Orleans Breakers

The New Orleans Breakers are three-point betting favorites at home against the Michigan Panthers on Sunday. This game has the ability to be a high-scoring affair as both teams have been giving up points all season long. 

Michigan desperately needs to pick up a win to turn their season around, and their offense will finally break through in this game. New Orleans continues to try to win games on offense, but that defense just hasn’t been getting the job done. 

This is going to be the only upset of the weekend in the USFL as taking the Panthers at +3.0 is the best bet to make in this one.
