USFL Week 6 Preview

18 May 2022

We are into Week Six of the USFL season. This week offers some great matchups for fans to enjoy. Check out our expert previews for each game this week below.

Tampa Bay Bandits vs. Philadelphia Stars

This game is expected to be the closest for the week as these teams are pretty evenly matched. The Bandits do an excellent job and forcing their opponents to go the length of the field as they have a 28 kickoff touchback percentage. Philadelphia is a one-sided offense as they do not run the ball efficiently, which makes it a little easier to defend against them.

The Stars struggle to defend against the run as they allow 193 rushing yards per game, so it will be interesting to see if Tampa Bay exploits that. All in all, go with the under and Tampa Bay to cover the three-point spread in this game.

Time: 1:00 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Tampa Bay 109.598; Philadelphia 103.239
Dunkel Line & Total: Tampa Bay by 6 ½; 37
Vegas Line & Total: Tampa Bay by 3; 39 ½
Dunkel Pick: Tampa Bay (-3); Under

Michigan Panthers vs. Birmingham Stallions

There is a reason why the Stallions are a perfect 5-0 to begin the regular season and are clearly on a different tier than the Panthers are. Michigan is going to be able to put some points as well, as they are leading the entire USFL with a 43.7 third-down percentage thus far. However, wide receiver Victor Bolden Jr is dominant so far as he has 832 all purpose yards while no other player has eclipsed 600 all purpose yards.

The Stallions have been dominating offensively this season as they are averaging 25.8 points per game so far, while Michigan has 17.4 points per game. Birmingham is considered a 6.5-point home favorite, so go with this to hit and the over-hitting in this matchup.

Time: 7:30 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Michigan 104.012; Birmingham 113.963
Dunkel Line & Total: Birmingham by 10; 42
Vegas Line & Total: Birmingham by 6 ½; 37 ½
Dunkel Pick: Birmingham (-6 ½); Over

Pittsburgh Maulers vs. New Orleans Breakers

The Pittsburgh Maulers have struggled to get going this season, and their offense has been struggling as they are averaging just 12 points per game. The New Orleans Breakers have quarterback Kyle Slotter throwing for 245.2 yards per game, while no other QB is averaging 200 yards.

New Orleans has a solid defense, and I do not trust in the Maulers being able to defend in the secondary well enough to limit the scoring against them. The Breakers should be able to win by multiple possessions and the under to hit in this game, as those seem to be the best bets here.

Time: 12:00 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Pittsburgh 99.456; New Orleans 110.744
Dunkel Line & Total: New Orleans by 11 ½; 41
Vegas Line & Total: New Orleans by 8; 36
Dunkel Pick: New Orleans (-8); Under

Houston Gamblers vs. New Jersey Generals

The New Jersey Generals have been doing extremely well on the offensive side of the field as they have shown no trouble moving up and down the field with 366.8 total yards per game. The rushing attack has been their bread and butter as running back Darius Victor (5), and quarterback De’Andre Johnson (4) have scored more rushing touchdowns this season than anyone else in the league.

The Houston Gamblers do not have the firepower to match tit for tat with the Generals. They will be continuously running the football and thus keeping the clock ticking. Go with the New Jersey Generals to win by more than a touchdown and PAT, as well as having the under hit as not too many points will be scored.

Time: 4:00 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Houston 102.552; New Jersey 112.436
Dunkel Line & Total: New Jersey by 10; 34
Vegas Line & Total: New Jersey by 7; 38 ½
Dunkel Pick: New Jersey (-7); Under
