With little fanfare, Miami's Ichiro Suzuki rapped a single in the fifth inning last night to tie Ty Cobb with 4,191 hits in professional baseball. It was his 2,913th in MLB and combined with his 1,278 hits in Japan gave him as many as Cobb and trailing only Pete Rose's 4,256. It was a lone bright spot on the evening for the Marlins as they fell to the Cardinals, 3-1.
