Toronto Maple Leafs at New Jersey Devils Betting Preview

07 March 2023 By Cole Paganelli

There are some big NHL games on the schedule on Tuesday night, but none bigger than the matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils. Both Toronto and New Jersey are sitting in second place in their respective divisions, and this is an important game.

Toronto comes into this game having gone 3-2 in their last five, and that includes two losses in their last three games. The Maple Leafs are in the middle of a long road trip fatigue might be starting to set in.

New Jersey has won four of their last five games, and this team appears to be peaking at the right time. The Devils were not a team that many predicted would make the postseason in 2022-23, but they are playing some great hockey.

The New Jersey Devils are moneyline betting favorites at -132 in this matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Toronto Great on Special Teams

The Toronto Maple Leafs do a ton of things well, but their play on special teams is what really sets them apart. Toronto has scored on the power play 25 percent of the time, and they are also killing off 81 percent of their penalties.

Mitchell Marner is having a monster season for the Maple Leafs, as he leads the way with 55 assists and 77 total points. There are plenty of other weapons on this team, and they are able to score a ton of goals when they get rolling.

Toronto is also holding opponents to just 2.64 goals per game, but they have been struggling to get stops against some of the better teams on their schedule.

Devils Playing Fast

The New Jersey Devils are a team that likes to push the tempo on both ends of the ice, and that allows them to wear down most of their opponents. New Jersey is scoring 3.58 goals per game this season, and they are scoring on the power play 22 percent of the time.

Jack Hughes had a big game in the most recent matchup for the Devils, and he is leading the team with 36 goals and 76 total points. New Jersey has a ton of young talent on their roster, and they are rolling at just the right time.

Devils Dominate the Maple Leafs

These are two of the better teams in the NHL this season, and that should set up for a nice showdown on Tuesday night. Toronto has been playing well on the road of late, but taking on the Devils in New Jersey is a much tougher task.

This is going to be a game that features a ton of goals, but most of the scoring is going to be done by the home team. You should expect that this game is tight throughout, but ultimately it is going to be the Devils that pull away late.

Bet the New Jersey Devils -2.0 as they pick up a big win over the Toronto Maple Leafs to stay red-hot.
