The Memorial Tournament Betting Preview

15 July 2020

The best golfers in the world remain in Dublin Ohio, this time for the Memorial Tournament. The big news is - Tiger Woods returns to the links, which is sure to bring quite the viewing crowd. The Dunkel Index has you covered with some of their picks for the week. Let’s take a look at the 2020 Memorial Tournament Betting Preview:

Top Contenders

Webb Simpson +2200

Simpson has 7 Top 10 finishes this season, and that’s in just 9 events. When he plays, he competes at the top of the leaderboard. Simpson is coming off an 8th place finish in his last time out. That came after a win at the RBC Heritage. He also won the event in Phoenix before the shutdown. Simpson is always a great bet.

Bryson DeChambeau +1000

Talk about a Top 10 machine. Bryson DeChambeau has won an event this season, and also finished inside the Top 10 - 9 times. The last 7 events he has played in, he has been inside the Top 10. That’s machine like. The lone time he missed a cut this season was back in January at the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Dustin Johnson +1600

Many thought Dustin Johnson would not be ready to take one down this season after his 103rd place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Little did they know- Dustin Johnson took just two weeks to dominate the course at the Travelers Championship. His highlight was the 61 in the third round. Johnson is always a favorite to win any event he is in.

Tiger Woods +2000

He is back! Tiger Woods has not played in an event since February 13th. This is just his fifth event of the season. He has made the cut in all four evets, and finished in the Top 10, the 3 other times. He won the ZoZo Championship back in late October, and backed it up in December with a 4th place finish at the Hero World Challenge.

Others to Consider

Matthias Schwab +9000

What an underdog. But, the models like him, and his success in the European Tour does not argue that point. He finished 4th and 42nd in his 2 US events, so that’s part of the battle - getting to the weekend. He has not played since March in a competitive event, so that could be a factor for him, but a big underdog pick that could pay off.

Colin Morikawa +2000

He certainly likes this course. He was the winner here last week at the Workday Charity Open. He did so by beating Justin Thomas on a third hole playoff. Before that, Morikawa finished 2nd earlier in June at the Charles Schwab Challenge. This seems to be his breakout season, and oddsmakers aren’t quite giving him the respect they should be.

Hideki Matsyuama +2500

Hideki had a nice weekend last week with a 22nd place finish. This came after a poor weekend, that saw him shoot a 72 and 73. Matsyuama fared well the first two days, with his 67 and 68. If those are his numbers all four rounds this weekend, he will be in a position to compete for a title.

Gary Woodland +4000

Woodland had a couple cough ups this season, but overall - the former Kansas Jayhawks golfer has been excellent. Woodland fired a 69 on Sunday to grab a fifth place finish at the event. Woodland is a guy that certainly can use what worked well last weekend, and bring it into a big weekend at the Memorial.
