Texas Tech Red Raiders at Iowa State Cyclones Betting Preview
05 January 2022
— Wednesday, January 05th Texas Tech Red Raiders @ Iowa State Cyclones
After having their game against Oklahoma State postponed, the Texas Tech Red Raiders take on the Iowa State Cyclones. As of writing, the Red Raiders are fourth in the Big 12 with a record of 10-2. A win over the Cyclones will be huge, considering it’s a conference matchup. However, it won’t be easy to take down the Cyclones, who are ranked 11th in the nation with a 12-1 record.
The Cyclones need to get a win within their conference to move up in the Big 12. Their single loss was unfortunately a conference loss to Baylor. This dropped them to nearly the bottom of the Big 12 and put them in this position. This matchup against the Red Raiders has the Cyclones favored by 2.5-points. Can the Cyclones capitalize and take down the Red Raiders?
Texas Tech Red Raiders: Ready to Prove They Belong Here
One of the Red Raiders biggest problems is winning big games. Sure, they’re fourth in the Big 12 right now, but what does that mean if they can’t take out big teams? They beat No.13 Tennessee earlier this season but lost to No.5 Gonzaga shortly after. This game against Iowa State gives them a chance to prove to everyone, they belong at the top. It won’t be easy though.
For starters, Texas Tech needs to find a way to stop Izaiah Brockington, who averages 17.0 ppg. They’ll also need to find their own way to get some offense going against the Cyclones stingy defense. Ranked No.8 in college basketball, Iowa State gives up just 57.69 points per game. If the Red Raiders can’t overcome that, they’ll be in a serious world of trouble.
Iowa State Cyclones: Time to Get Back to Work After a Loss
Unfortunately, the Cyclones suffered a loss to the Baylor Bears. Plenty of people believed the Cyclones had a chance to take that game. However, the Cyclones can’t let that distract them from the game ahead. No.25 Texas Tech is coming to town looking to improve their ranking in college basketball. It’s up to the Cyclones to shake off the loss and get a win at home today.
This would also bring their conference record to 1-1, something they desperately need. Lucky for them, they can rely on their incredible defense to smother the Texas Tech offense. The Red Raiders average nearly 80 points per game, so Iowa State needs to be on their toes. If not, they could find themselves falling behind. They’ll also have Izaiah Brockington to lean on Wednesday.
Dunkel Index Pick for Texas Tech at Iowa State
The Red Raiders might be biting off more than they can chew on Wednesday. The Cyclones are a tough team and have been pretty great against the spread. The Red Raiders on the other hand, have been pretty average, with a 6-6 ATS record. In their last six games, the Red Raiders have gone 2-4 against the spread.
Since the Raiders aren’t too reliable at the sportsbook, we’re going to take the Cyclones here. Iowa State has gone 5-1 ATS in their last six games, making them a more reliable team. Overall this year they have a 9-4 ATS record and they only have to cover 2.5 points.
