Texas Rangers at New York Mets Betting Preview/Prop Picks
01 July 2022

The Texas Rangers are only a few games away from a .500 record. At the moment, they have a record of 36-38, but today, they’ll face one of the best teams in MLB. As they prepare to face the New York Mets, our main concern is the pitching battle.
Texas is coming off a loss to the Kansas City Royals; however, they won the series 2-1. Now, they’ll play the Mets for three games too.
The New York Mets are still missing some of their best pitchers. However, they still have a record of 47-29 and lead the NL East. To keep a hold of their spot at the top, they’ll need to keep winning games.
However, they’ve lost their last three games, making this one rather important. The Atlanta Braves aren’t far behind them, so they’ll need to put a few wins together.
Texas Rangers: Texas has won three of their last five games
Although they aren’t the best team in the league, the Rangers are pretty good. Over their last five games, they won three of them. Overall, they rank 17th in MLB in runs this season with 325.
Our main concern for the Rangers is with who they put on the mound. With a team ERA of 3.91, the Rangers rank 16th overall. However, they have a .239 batting average against, ranking 13th.
Today, the Rangers will send out Glenn Otto, who has a 4-3 record as a starter this season. Unfortunately, he also has an ERA of 5.31, which won’t do well against the Mets’ batters. His last game ended in a 6-4 loss to the Washington Nationals, so keep that in mind.
With Otto on the mound, the Rangers will rely on their batters. Their batters are 18th in batting average.
New York Mets: Injuries have drastically slowed the Mets
For a team that was well on their way to 50 wins, the Mets have slowed down a bit. Losing a few of their starting pitchers was a big blow to the team.
The good news for them is that some of these players will return soon. At the plate, the Mets have still been impressive, with a team batting average of .256. They rank fourth in that category and second in on-base percentage.
Considering that they still have incredible batters, the Mets should be just fine. The key here is getting a good lead; this way, there isn’t a lot of pressure on their pitcher. Taking the mound tonight is Chris Bassitt, who has a 4-5 record as a starter this season.
Bassitt has an ERA of 4.01 over the course of 89.2 innings. He’s not a bad pitcher, but he’s definitely no Max Scherzer.
Texas Rangers at New York Mets Betting Pick
There are some stark differences between these two teams, that much we can confirm. With the problems the Rangers have had at the mound, we can’t rely on Otto to win this one.
He’s facing some of the best batters in the league and a team that has scored 366 runs. Their on-base percentage alone is enough to take the Mets in this one.
Sure, the Mets are heavy favorites here, which hurts the winnings you’ll earn. However, if you pair this with the over, you should be able to make some of those winnings back. In Texas’ last five games on the road, four of them have gone over.
