It’s been a busy and exciting college football bowl season, but the biggest games are still set to take place. The TCU Horned Frogs and Michigan Wolverines will meet up in the Fiesta Bowl, and a place in the CFP Championship Game is on the line.
TCU comes into this game with an overall record of 12-1, and the lone loss was in the Big 12 Championship Game. The Horned Frogs came out of nowhere to get into this position, but they are big underdogs in this game.
Michigan is back in the CFP for the second year in a row, and they had a perfect regular season. The Wolverines went 13-0 during the regular season, and that included another impressive blowout win over Ohio State.
The Michigan Wolverines are eight-point betting favorites over the TCU Horned Frogs in the Fiesta Bowl.
TCU Can Be Explosive
The TCU Horned Frogs averaged over 40 points per game in the regular season, and they can put points on the board in a hurry. Quarterback Max Duggan threw for over 3,300 yards and 30 touchdowns this season, and he is capable of carrying his team on offense.
TCU also rushed for 200 yards per game this season, and they are going to need a balanced attack to try and solve the Michigan defense. The Horned Frogs will pull out all of the trick plays for this game.
Defense has been a challenge for the Horned Frogs at times this season, as they are allowing over 25 points per game. The TCU defense will have to play their best game of the year to win this one.
Wolverines Winning With Defense
The Michigan Wolverines are one of the most complete teams in the country, but they specialize in getting stops on defense. Michigan is allowing just 13.4 points per game this season, and they were able to slow down some great opponents along the way.
Running back Blake Corum was one of the best players in the country this season, but he will miss the remainder of the season with an injury. That will put more pressure on J.J. McCarthy to deliver, and he is good enough to get that done.
McCarthy seemingly got better as the year moved along, and he will lead a Michigan offense that averaged 40.1 points per game. That offense also has a ton of momentum after putting up a great performance against Ohio State in the regular season finale.
Wolverines Win Big Over Horned Frogs
TCU has an offense that is capable of scoring right along with Michigan, but they just don’t have the defense to get enough stops to win this one. The Horned Frogs aren’t going to find easy scores in this game, though, as Michigan has been a dominant defense this season.
Playing without Blake Corum is a huge loss for Michigan, but they still have enough offense to pull away in the second half. The Wolverines have looked like one of the best teams in the country this season, and they will take complete control of this game to reach the championship game.
