St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview/Prop Picks

21 June 2022

First place in the National League Central Division is on the line on Tuesday night when the Milwaukee Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals. Milwaukee won the series opener on Monday night and are looking to hold serve at home again.

St. Louis had a huge start to the month of June, and this is a team that is loaded with talent. The Cardinals come into this game with an overall record of 38-31, but they are just 17-18 on the road this season.

Milwaukee went through a long losing streak earlier this month, but they are now officially back on track. The Brewers are 39-30 on the season, and they have gone 16-12 in their home park to jump back into first place.

The St. Louis Cardinals are the moneyline betting favorites at -152 over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 of this series.

Flaherty Needs to Find It

Pitching is something that MLB teams can never have enough of, and the Cardinals have one of their best starting in this game. Jack Flaherty is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA this season, but he will be making just his second start of the year.

The team ERA for the Cardinals is a solid 3.82, but that pitching staff has started to struggle a bit of late. Not only has the team been struggling to pitch well of late, but the offense has started to disappear as well.

Paul Goldschmidt has been on an absolute tear this season, and he leads the team with 16 home runs and 58 RBIs.

Plenty of Power For Brewers

There are still some members of the Brewers' everyday lineup that continue to struggle, and that will have to change as the season moves along. What has been impressive for Milwaukee is that the team has belted 89 home runs and has a .400 slugging percentage.

Rowdy Tellez has turned into a dominant player for the Brewers, and he leads the team with a .253 batting average and 39 RBIs. Milwaukee needs more from Christian Yelich on offense, and they just released Lorenzo Cain.

Milwaukee will not have one of their dominant starters taking the mound in this game as Chi Chi Gonzalez gets the start.

Brewers Win Again

Jack Flaherty is one of the best pitchers in baseball when healthy, but he's not quite on point this season. The Cardinals are in desperate need of some more starting pitching, but that offense has to step back up again as well.

The overall offensive numbers for the Brewers are not that impressive, but this team can really show off the power. Milwaukee is always a better offensive team at home, and they will have some big swings of the bat in this matchup.

These teams are going to battle it out all season long, but it will be the Brewers that beat the Cardinals again. Take the Milwaukee Brewers moneyline as the underdog will get it done on Tuesday night and beat the Cardinals for the second straight game.

Prop Picks

Milwaukee (-135) OVER 3.5 Runs

Milwaukee is averaging 4.45 runs per 9 innings on offense, which ranks No. 16 in the league, with a team OPS of .709, which ranks No. 13. Scores have gone OVER in six of the Brewers’ last eight home games.

With Dunkel predicting a Milwaukee victory by the score of 6-5, take the Brewers (-135) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 3.5 runs against the Cardinals.

Christian Yelich (-135) OVER 0.5 Runs Scored

Yelich has scored 41 runs in 66 games this season, which ranks No. 1 on the Brewers. The veteran left fielder has scored 20 runs in 101 at-bats with an OPS of .700 at home.

With Dunkel predicting a Brewers home victory while going OVER their Vegas team run total, take Yelich (-135) to finish OVER 0.5 runs scored against St. Louis.
