St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies Betting Preview/Prop Picks

10 August 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals are in Colorado this week for a series against the Rockies, and this provides an interesting betting matchup. Colorado won the series opener by a score of 16-5, and the Cardinals will be looking for some revenge.

St. Louis had won seven straight games entering the series opener on Tuesday night, including some impressive wins. The Cardinals are still 60-49 on the year, and they lead the way in the NL Central Division.

Colorado comes into this game with an overall record of just 49-63, but they are four games over the .500 mark at home. The Rockies are trying to play the role of spoiler as the rest of the season plays out.

The St. Louis Cardinals are the moneyline betting favorites in this matchup at -162 over the Colorado Rockies.

St. Louis Looking to Start New Streak

St. Louis has been on a roll to begin the second half of the season, and they will be looking to put the loss on Tuesday night past them. The Cardinals are led by a pair of MVP candidates in Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, and they will try to get the team back on track.

Goldschmidt might have the NL MVP Award wrapped up at this point as he leads the team with 26 home runs, 84 RBIs, and an impressive .329 batting average. St. Louis has a lot of thunder in that lineup, and they can strike at any time.

Jose Quintana makes his second start for the Cardinals after being acquired at the Trade Deadline. Quintana is just 3-5 with a 3.39 ERA on the year, but pitching in Colorado isn’t easy on anyone.

Colorado Can Score Some Runs

The Colorado Rockies are once again one of the best offensive teams in baseball, especially when playing at home. Colorado has hit just 102 home runs this season, but they have scored the same amount of runs as the Cardinals.

C.J. Cron is having a monster season for the Rockies as he leads the team with 23 home runs and 79 RBIs. The Rockies are dangerous when playing at Coors Field, and that was on display on Tuesday night.

Kyle Freeland starts for Colorado on Wednesday, and he is 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA on the year. The Rockies don’t usually win games with pitching, but that offense can be tough to deal with.

Rockies Roll to Another Win

The St. Louis Cardinals came into Colorado on a roll, but that run ended quickly on Tuesday night in a blowout loss. St. Louis is the better overall team in this matchup, but the Rockies are always tough to deal with at home.

The Cardinals are hoping that Jose Quintana can deliver for them again on the mound, but slowing down this Rockies offense won’t be easy to do. This should be another high-scoring affair on Wednesday night, and the Rockies are comfortable playing in those types of games.

Take the Colorado Rockies moneyline as they beat the Cardinals for a second straight time to begin this series.

Prop Picks

Colorado (-120) OVER 4.5 Runs

Colorado is averaging 4.55 runs per 9 innings on offense, which ranks No. 9 in the league. That average increases to 5.78 runs per 9 innings at home, which ranks No. 1. Scores have gone OVER in five of the Rockies’ last six games overall.

With Dunkel predicting a Colorado home victory by the score of 7-6, take the Rockies (-120) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 4.5 runs against the Cardinals.

Charlie Blackmon (-135) OVER 0.5 Runs Scored

Blackmon has scored 54 runs in 100 games played, which ranks No. 3 on the Rockies. The DH has scored 37 runs in 210 at-bats with an OPS of .851 at home compared to 17 runs in 189 at-bats with an OPS of .659 on the road.

With Dunkel predicting the final score going OVER the Vegas run total, take Blackmon (-135) to finish OVER 0.5 runs scored against St. Louis.
