St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will meet up on Saturday night at Wrigley Field for Game 2 of their three-game series. Chicago came away with a 10-5 victory in the series opener, and it was a game that was not competitive.

St. Louis comes into Saturday with an overall record of 43-46, and this has been a brutal two-month stretch for the Cardinals. They are 9.5 games out of first place in the National League Central Division. 

The Cubs haven’t been much better as they just recently lost 11 straight games. Chicago is 44-45 on the season, and they aren’t going to factor into the playoff race either. 

The St. Louis Cardinals are -101 on the money line for Game 2 of this series against the Chicago Cubs.

Cardinals Can’t Get Outs

The St. Louis Cardinals have been dealt some significant injuries to their pitching staff, and they have struggled to find a way to get outs this season. St. Louis has a team ERA of 4.29, and the bullpen continues to lead the league in issuing walks.

Kwang Hyun Kim is taking the ball on Saturday night, and the Cardinals don’t even know what to expect from their starter. He has gone 3-5 with a 3.39 earned run average, but there have been some games where he has not pitched well at all.

The offense hasn’t done its part for the Cardinals either, as they are near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. Nolan Arenado leads the team with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs, but he hasn’t gotten a ton of help. 

Cubs Have Some Power

Kris Bryant and Javier Baez didn’t start the series opener for the Cubs, and that is two of the top bats in the Cubs’ lineup. Bryant did deliver a bases clearing double as a pinch hitter, and he leads the Cubs with a .271 batting average.

Javier Baez has 21 home runs and 56 RBIs for the Cubs, and getting him back in the lineup would be huge. This Cubs team can put up runs in a hurry, but they also have the ability to be completely shut down.

Zach Davies starts for the Cubs, and he is 5-5 with a 4.28 earned run average this season. 

Cubs Beat Cards Again

All of the traditional drama and excitement has been taken from this series since both teams are well out of the playoff race. That doesn’t change the fact that these two teams are bitter rivals, and each team wants to beat the other.

The Cubs have gone 6-1 against the Cardinals this season, and they just seem to be the better team overall. Chicago still has some weaknesses, but they have been able to play really well against their biggest rival.

Look for a much more competitive game on Saturday, but the overall result will still be the same. Bet the Chicago Cubs money line as they pick up another win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
