St. Louis Blues at Vancouver Canucks Betting Preview/Prop Pick

23 January 2022

Things are really starting to heat up in the National Hockey League as teams continue to try and make a push to the playoffs. The Vancouver Canucks host the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night, and this game has extreme importance for each team.

St. Louis enters Sunday night with 53 points on the season, and they are right in the mix for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Blues are recent Stanley Cup winners, and they have a roster that could be good enough to make another run this season.

Vancouver has 40 points on the year, and that currently has them in sixth place in the Pacific Division. The Canucks are going to have to go on a big run soon if they are going to find a way into the playoff mix.

The St. Louis Blues are the moneyline betting favorites at -157.

St. Louis Scoring Some Goals

The St. Louis Blues are averaging over 3.5 goals per game this season, and they have been terrific on the power play. St. Louis has converted nearly 30 percent of their chances on the power play, and they make teams pay when they take a penalty.

Center Jordan Kyrou leads the team with 15 goals and 40 total points, and he is going to present a challenge for the Canucks. Rob Thomas has a team-high 26 assists for the Blues, and this team just has so many weapons on the offensive end.

St. Louis still needs better play from goaltender Jordan Binnington as the season goes along, but that offense can clean up any issues on the defensive end of the ice.

Can Canucks Keep Up?

The Vancouver Canucks have not been a great offensive team this season as they are scoring just 2.48 goals per game. Vancouver is going to have to put together a big offensive performance if they are going to stay in this game.

Vancouver is led in scoring by center J.T. Miller who has racked up 39 points on the season. Bo Horvat has scored a team-high 13 goals on the year, and he is another player that will have to find some offense to give the Canucks a chance.

The Canucks have been a solid defensive team this season as they are allowing just 2.75 goals per game this season. Vancouver has really struggled on the penalty kill, and that could present a pretty big problem in this matchup.

Blues Beat the Canucks

St. Louis is coming into this game with some momentum, and that is going to make things even tougher for the home team. Vancouver just has not been able to put a big run together this season, and hosting the Blues is not going to be a good matchup.

The Blues are able to rack up goals in a hurry, and they will be able to dictate the pace of play in this matchup in Vancouver. Don’t be surprised if this game gets out of hand in a hurry, especially if the Blues get more terrific goaltending.

Take the St. Louis Blues -2.5 as they head into Vancouver and have little trouble in dispatching the host Canucks.

Prop Pick

Vancouver (-155) UNDER 3.5 Goals

The Canucks have gone UNDER in 22 of their last 33 home games. The Blues have gone UNDER in 7 of their last 8 games as a favorite.

With Dunkel predicting a St. Louis win by the score of 3-1, take the Canucks (-155) to finish UNDER their Vegas team total of 3.5 goals against the Blues.
