South Point 400 Betting Preview

24 September 2020

Taking a look at the first race of the second round in NASCAR provides some betting opportunities in the playoffs. This race is arguably one of the most important ones of the playoffs, but Martinsville on Nov. 1 and Phoenix on Nov. 8 are still quite important as well.

The reason for the importance of this race, in addition to the other November races, is because you do not want to be arriving in the final two races of the Round of 12 stuck behind the 8-ball. Position is key, so drivers understand the importance here.

The green flag drops Sunday at 7:00 pm ET at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas.

Top 10 Dunkel Odds For This Event

Looking at the South Point 400, a lot of excellent drivers are expected to finish high. The following are the best available according to Dunkel odds:

  • Kevin Harvick 69.111
  • Martin Truex 71.760
  • Denny Hamlin 73.027
  • Chase Elliot 73.542
  • Alex Bowman 73.773
  • Aric Almirola 74.437
  • Kyle Busch 75.032
  • Joey Logano 75.497
  • Austin Dillon 76.286
  • Tyler Reddick 77.278

Interestingly enough, the second stage winner in Vegas has been able to win all but one of the five races when considered under the stage racing era. However, the only exception is Joey Logano, who happened to finish fifth in Stage 2 back in February but then eventually found himself in victory lane.

Potential Winning Picks

Martin Truex Jr. (71.760)

Truex is the favorite by some since he was able to win the last time he was in Vegas. In September 2019, he had a playoff race, eight Top 11 finishes on the 1.5-mile track, which included five top-four efforts, and also two wins just in his last nine starts.

Kevin Harvick (69.111)

Harvick is another excellent choice here. He has three top-four finishes in his last five Vegas starts. This is taking into account a win in 2018 and a very close runner-up last fall.

Austin Dillon (76.286)

Dillon has the potential to sneak into the top five here. He was able to finish 12th in this event last year and then fourth in the spring.

If he is on his game and the other top drivers fail to be at their best, Dillon could definitely be in the discussion for a top-five placement, which would be his third in four playoff races.

Alex Bowman (73.773)

Bowman placed sixth in last year's Vegas race. He could have finished higher if not for a late caution and was going to be at least in the top two this past spring.

Winner of this Event

Truex has the most compelling chance to win here. He has also won 12 races on 1.5-mile tracks since dating back to 2016. That's nearly twice as many wins when comparing it to the next closest driver.
