A year after winning the MVP and leading the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl, QB Cam Newton had a rough 2016 campaign. An injured shoulder and passer rating (75.8) over 20 points lower than the year before spelled disaster for the Panthers as they struggled to a 6-10 season. But off-season shoulder surgery looks to have Newton back in form and the results were encouraging in Week 1 as the Panthers easily slipped past the 49ers, 23-3.
