Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros Betting Preview

13 October 2022

The ALDS Playoffs continue on Thursday night, including a matchup between AL West Division rivals. The Houston Astros host the Seattle Mariners after taking the series opener in thrilling and unbelievable fashion.

Seattle had a terrific 2022 season, and they were able to cap it all off by sneaking into the playoffs as a Wild Card team. The Mariners then went to Toronto and beat the Blue Jays in two games to get to the ALDS.

Houston had the best regular season record in the AL this year, and that has given them home field advantage throughout the postseason. The Astros are a recent World Series champion and are a threat to get it done again in 2022.

The Houston Astros are the moneyline betting favorites at -158 over the Seattle Mariners in Game 2 on Thursday night.

Mariners Can Score

The Seattle Mariners have been terrific on offense so far in the playoffs, and that was the case in the series opener as well. Seattle has scored 17 total runs in their last two playoff games, and they will try to win this game with the offense as well.

Julio Rodriguez continues to be a star for the Mariners, and he did all he could for his team in Game 1. Seattle belted 197 regular season home runs, and they have the ability to strike fast.

Luis Castillo will be on the mound for the Mariners on Thursday night, and he was dominant in his first start in the Wild Card series. Castillo has all of the weapons to be dominant again and shut down a great lineup.

Pitching Powering Astros

The Houston Astros had a team ERA of 2.90 during the regular season, and they will have one of their best on the mound in this one. Houston does have the ability to win games at the plate, but they will be looking for Framber Valdez to set the tone in this one.

Valdez had a terrific regular season as he went 17-6 to go along with a 2.82 ERA. The Seattle Mariners do present a pretty big challenge on offense, but Valdez will simply try to slow them down.

Yordan Alvarez hit 37 home runs during the regular season to go along with a batting average of .306. Alvarez was also the hero in the series opener as he belted a three-run walk off home run.

Seattle Slugs Way to Win

This starting pitching matchup seems to be as tight as can be, as Luis Castillo will be able to keep his Mariners team in this one. There is no denying that the Astros have a big edge in momentum heading into Game 2, but that won’t affect the Mariners.

Houston was lucky to come back and steal the series opener, but that’s not going to happen in this one. The Astros are facing a desperate Mariners team, and Seattle will have a huge night on offense.

Take the Mariners -3.5 as they go on the road and beat the Astros by at least four runs.
