Sanderson Farms Championship 2022 Betting Preview

28 September 2022

The PGA Tour is back in action this week with its lone stop in the state of Mississippi for the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson. The Tour had a break in the schedule last week while the Americans defeated the International Team in the 14th Presidents Cup. Tournament play begins this Thursday, September 29th, and concludes on Sunday, October 2nd.

For the ninth year in a row, the Country Club of Jackson plays host to the tournament. This tournament was established in 1968 and has been played annually since at different locations around the state.

Presidents Cup member Sam Burns heads from North Carolina to Mississippi to defend his title after picking up his first of three victories last season at this event. Burns carded a four-day total of 266 (-22), defeating Nick Watney and Cameron Young by one stroke.

The field will fight for a piece of the $7.9 million dollar purse, with the winner earning $1.422 million and the coveted 500 FedEx Cup points.

The Field

Burns returns as the highest ranked player in the field at No. 12 in the world. Sebastian Munoz, who won here in 2019, and Christiaan Bezuidenhout join Burns as the three Presidents Cup participants in the field.

Other notable players in the field include Sahith Theegala, who notched a T8 here last season, Sepp Straka, Seamus Power, Harrish English, and J.T. Poston.
The Course

The Country Club of Jackson is over 100 years old, opening in 1914. There are 27 holes on the property, with 18 of those undergoing a redesign in 2008 at the hands of John Fought.

Fought incorporated many of Donald Ross’ touches, highlighted by the small and difficult green complexes. The parkland-style layout measures approximately 7,400 yards.

  5. Emiliano Grillo -40.829
  6. Taylor Moore -41.203

Potential Winning Pick

Max Homa defended his title two weeks ago in Napa; there is a good chance Sam Burns (-41.492) can harness that energy from a Presidents Cup victory and kick his 2022-23 season off with a victory. Burns went 0-3-2 in Presidents Cup play, so he’ll come in ready and motivated to perform.

Prop Picks

Tournament Matchup: Davis Riley (-110) over Chris Kirk

Riley returns to his home state and will have the crowd support this week. The 25-year-old has missed back-to-back cuts here, but this week he shows maturation on the golf course for a finish Kirk just can’t compete with.

Tournament Matchup: Christiaan Bezuidenhout (+105) over Russell Henley

Bezuidenhout represented himself and South Africa well in his Presidents Cup debut, sporting a 1-0-1 record in the competition. He carries over that excellent play for a matchup victory over Henley.
