San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview/Player Prop
12 October 2021
Game 4 of the NLDS series between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers is set for Tuesday night. San Francisco has taken a 2-1 series lead over Los Angeles, and they can eliminate the defending champions with another win.
The Giants were not even expected to be a playoff team in 2021, but they just continued to win games en route to an NL West Division title. San Francisco came away with a 1-0 victory at Dodger Stadium on Monday night to take control of the series.
Los Angeles is the defending World Series champion, and they were big betting favorites to repeat this season as well. The Dodgers were unable to catch the Giants during the regular season and are finding life tough against their biggest rival in the postseason.
The San Francisco Giants are the slight moneyline favorites over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
Giants Continue to Surprise
It looked as if the Dodgers were getting ready to take over this series after a blowout win in Game 2, but San Francisco responded on Monday night. The Giants' pitching staff has been dominant in the two games that they have won so far in this series.
Evan Longoria belted a solo home run in Game 3, and that was the only run that crossed home plate on a windy day. San Francisco belted 241 home runs and had a slugging percentage of .440 during the regular season.
The Giants are expected to use Anthony DeSclafani to cover a large majority of the innings on the mound in Game 4.
LA Must Find Some Offense
If the Dodgers are going to keep their season alive, then they have to find a way to do some damage at the plate. Los Angeles has scored nine total runs in this series, but all of the offense came in the Game 2 victory.
Max Muncy led the Dodgers with 36 home runs and 94 RBIs during the regular season, but he is currently out of the lineup due to injury. Los Angeles needs players like Mookie Betts and Justin Turner to step up and lead the offense.
The Dodgers have not yet named a starting pitcher for Game 4, but Tony Gonsolin is expected to see plenty of action in this one.
Dodgers Deliver Big Win
The Dodgers will come into Tuesday night with a sense of desperation, and that is going to make them dangerous as well. This isn’t the first time that the Dodgers have had their backs against the wall, and this team has a history of coming through.
Look for the Dodgers to come up with some clutch hits on Tuesday night, something that they haven’t been able to do in the two losses. Los Angeles will get a big boost from the home crowd as well, and they are sending this series back to San Francisco.
The Giants won’t let this game get out of hand, but they aren’t going to pull off another stunning win in LA. Bet the Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 as they find a way to keep their season alive by winning Game 4 by at least two runs.
Mookie Betts (-300) Over 0.5 Hits
It’s certainly not easy to shut out the Dodgers’ attack, but if there is a secret it would be what San Francisco did last night by keeping LA’s top three – Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Corey Seager – off the bases.
That trio went a combined 0-for-11 last night and of the three, only Betts (.250) is hitting above the Mendoza line in the series.
The 29-year-old outfielder has played some of his best baseball in October. Against the Astros in the 2017 divisional series, he hit .317 (5-for-16). And in last year’s divisional series against the Padres, the former MVP hit .333 (4-for-12).
Betts came within a whisker of picking up a big hit last night when Brandon Crawford made a leaping catch on his line drive in the seventh inning to preserve the lead. We’ll take the odds to even out tonight and go with Betts (-300) to pick up at least one hit against the Giants.
