09 October 2022

Time: 4:07 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: San Diego 15.191; NY Mets 16.189
Dunkel Line & Total: NY Mets by 1; 9
Vegas Line & Total: NY Mets (-136); 6 ½
Dunkel Pick: NY Mets (-136); Over

There were four Wild Card series that could have gone to three games, but only one series made it that far, and it will wrap up on Sunday. The New York Mets will host the San Diego Padres, and a spot in the NLDS will be on the line.

San Diego had a miserable second half of the regular season, but they were still good enough to reach the postseason. The Padres had a huge day at the plate in the series opener but were cooled off in Game 2 on Saturday.

The Mets lost a huge division lead over the final two months, and they had to settle for the top Wild Card spot in the NL. New York came into this series as the big favorite, but they must win for a second straight game to avoid elimination.

The New York Mets are the moneyline betting favorites at -136 against the San Diego Padres on Sunday night.

Padres Have Some Power

The San Diego Padres were not a great offensive team in the second half of the year, but they are a lineup with a ton of power. San Diego has already hit five home runs so far in this series, and they will be looking to slug their way to another win.

Manny Machado was the offensive star during the regular season, as he belted 32 home runs to go along with 102 RBIs. Juan Soto has continued to be quiet since arriving in San Diego, but he can always strike at any time.

Joe Musgrove will be on the mound for the Mets in this game, and he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season.

Mets Winning WIth Pitching

The New York Mets are going to need Chris Bassitt to pitch well on Sunday night if they are going to have a chance to advance. Bassitt was 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA during the regular season, and the Mets are a team that wins with pitching.

Pete Alonso belted a home run in Game 2 of the series, and he had a monster season. Alonso led the team with 40 home runs and 131 RBIs, and he needs to help set the tone for this game.

The Mets aren’t always a team that does a ton of scoring, but they need that to change in this game.

Mets Marching On

The first two games in this series haven’t been close, but that should all change on Sunday. Both teams are sending out an accomplished pitcher to the mound on Sunday, and runs should be hard to come by.

New York has been able to get clutch hits all season long, and they should be able to find some magic again on Sunday night. Musgrove is going to keep the Padres in this game, but it’s just hard to see San Diego doing enough damage on offense to win it.

Bet the New York Mets -136 as they are able to find just enough offense to pick up a second straight win and advance to the NLDS.

Prop Picks

San Diego (-150) OVER 2.5 Runs

San Diego averaged 4.36 runs per 9 innings this season, which ranked No. 13 in MLB. That average increased to 4.99 runs per 9 innings on the road. Scores have gone OVER in each of the Padres’ last five games overall.

With Dunkel predicting a NY win by the score of 5-4, take the Padres (-150) to finish OVER 2.5 runs scored versus the Mets.

Chris Bassitt (-135) OVER 1.5 Earned Runs

Bassitt allowed 69 earned runs in 181.2 innings pitched this season for an ERA of 3.42. That ERA increased to 7.84 (9 earned runs in 10.1 IP) in two starts versus the Padres this year.

With Dunkel predicting the final score going OVER the Vegas run total, take Bassitt (-135) to finish OVER 1.5 earned runs allowed against San Diego.
