Not exactly the best time to open up a series with the defending champion Royals, who have won eight of their last nine to pull to within a game of the Indians in the AL Central. Noah Syndergaard (7-2, 1.91) will try to stem the tide of the Mets, while Ian Kennedy (5-5, 4.17) will take the mound for KC.
