Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers Betting Preview

01 December 2021

Wednesday, December 01st Pittsburgh Penguins @ Edmonton Oilers

The NHL will be back on national television on Wednesday night as the Edmonton Oilers host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The NHL has done a great job of setting up terrific matchups in primetime, and this should be another big battle up in Canada.

Pittsburgh comes into this game with 25 points on the year after going 10-7-5. The Penguins have struggled a bit of late as they have lost two straight games to teams from Canada.

Edmonton has now won two straight games, and they have also won five straight home games on the year. The Oilers have 30 points on the season, and they look like one of the betting favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

The Edmonton Oilers are the betting favorites at -126 on the moneyline.

Penguins Looking For Offense

The Pittsburgh Penguins are scoring just 2.82 goals per game this season, and this is not an area that they are used to struggling in. Pittsburgh is allowing just 2.6 goals per game, but at some point, they have to score some goals.

Defense Kris Letang has 11 assists to lead Pittsburgh, and he is a key player on the power play. Jake Guentzel leads the way with nine goals and 19 total points, but Pittsburgh has to find a way to get more players involved in the scoring.

Goaltender Tristan Jarry has gone 10-4-4 on the year, but he will be facing one of his biggest tests of the season on Wednesday night. It’s going to take a complete team effort from Pittsburgh to shut down the Oilers.

Dynamic Duo Carrying Oilers

Edmonton is scoring 3.75 goals per game this season, and they have two of the best offensive players in hockey leading the way. Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid might be competing against each other for the right to win the MVP Award this season.

Draisaitl has been the better of the two at this point, racking up 20 goals and 40 total points on the year. McDavid has a team-high 22 assists, and the Oilers are nearly impossible to slow down when both players are on the ice.

Goaltender Mikko Koskinen has been great for the Oilers as well, allowing less than 2.9 goals per game. Edmonton is going to give up some points, but that offense can get them back in a hurry.

Oilers Blow Out Penguins

This is a matchup between two of the better teams in the NHL, but Edmonton is clearly the more complete team this season. Edmonton is coming into this game with a ton of momentum, and it won’t be fun for Pittsburgh to deal with them on Wednesday night.

Look for the two stars for Edmonton to have another big night as the offense of the Oilers will take complete control of this game. Pittsburgh can keep it close for a period, but it will be all the home team from that point on.

Forget about betting the moneyline in this game, as things will get out of hand in a hurry. Bet the Edmonton Oilers -2.5 as they cruise to a big win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
