Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins Betting Preview/Prop Pick

08 February 2022

A pair of Eastern Conference rivals in the NHL are set to meet up on Tuesday night in what should be a terrific game. The Boston Bruins are hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins, and each team is still trying to secure a postseason berth.

Pittsburgh comes into this matchup with 62 points on the year, and that has the Penguins in 3rd place in the Metropolitan Division at the moment. The Penguins had lost four straight games heading into the All-Star Break, and they will be looking to regroup.

Boston was also struggling a bit before the break as they had gone just 2-3 in their last five games. The Bruins are currently in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 55 points, and they have some work to do.

The Boston Bruins are the betting favorites at -133 on the moneyline.

Goaltending Guiding the Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are allowing just 2.59 goals per game this season, and goaltender Tristan Jarry has played a key role in that. Jarry has posted a record of 23-8-6 so far this season, and you can expect to see him in net on Tuesday night.

Jake Guentzel has been the offensive star for Pittsburgh so far this season as he leads the team with 23 goals and 46 points. Pittsburgh is scoring 3.3 goals per game this season, but that offense has been inconsistent at times.

Getting healthy continues to be a key for the Penguins, and they can be one of the best teams in the league when they are at full strength.

Bruins Special on Special Teams

The Boston Bruins are staying in the playoff race because they have done a great job on special teams all season long. Boston is scoring on 26 percent of their power play chances, and they have also killed off 83 percent of their own penalties.

Brad Marchand leads the Bruins with 28 assists and 49 total points on the year. David Pastrnak has started to turn it on of late as well as he has registered a team-high 22 goals.

An injury to goaltender Tuukka Raks has really hurt this team, but the Bruins are still allowing just 2.77 goals per game. Boston wants to turn this into a slow and physical game as that will give them the best chance to win.

Penguins Pick Up a Win

There is not much separation between the Penguins and Bruins, and that should lead to a terrific battle on Tuesday night. Both teams are looking to finish the season in a big way, and a win in this matchup could get things headed in the right direction.

The Bruins have struggled to score at times, and they are facing a Pittsburgh team that does not give up many goals. Look for that to be the difference in this matchup, as the Penguins will be able to take advantage.

This will be a game with plenty of big hits and some physical play, but the visitors will steal the win. Take the Pittsburgh Penguins moneyline  and the OVER as they head into Boston and Tuesday night and pick up an impressive win.

Prop Pick

Pittsburgh (+210) OVER 3.5 Goals

The Penguins are averaging 3.3 goals per game on offense, which ranks No. 10 in the league. Scores have gone OVER in four of Pittsburgh’s last five games versus Eastern Conference opponents.

With Dunkel predicting a Pittsburgh victory by the score of 4-3, take the Penguins (+210) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 3.5 goals against the Bruins.
