Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves Betting Preview/Player Prop

09 May 2021

National League East rivals will meet up in Atlanta on Sunday night when the Atlanta Braves host the Philadelphia Phillies. This is the series finale between the playoff contenders, and each team has won one game this weekend.

Philadelphia had their five-game losing streak snapped on Saturday when they suffered an 8-7 loss to the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies are now atop the NL East with a record of 18-16, but this is a loaded division.

The Atlanta Braves have won four of their last five games, with the lone loss coming in the series opener. This season has not gone as well as the Braves were hoping, as they are just 16-17 on the year.

The Philadelphia Phillies are the betting favorites at -115 in this meeting with the Atlanta Braves.

Nola Dealing For Phillies

The Phillies will have their ace on the mound on Sunday night, and that should give them a big edge as they are looking to win the series against Atlanta. Aaron Nola is 3-1 with a 2.89 earned run average, and he has some of the best stuff in the National League.

Philadelphia has been a great offensive team over the past week, and that trend will need to continue as the season goes along. The Phillies are right around league average in most offensive categories, but the team is trending in the right direction.

Catcher J.T. Realmuto leads the team with a .312 batting average, and Rhys Hoskins has hit eight home runs to lead the way. The Phillies are still waiting on Bryce Harper to get things going, but that could happen at any time.

Acuna Out For Atlanta

Ronald Acuna Jr. was hit by a pitch on Saturday, and he won’t be in the lineup on Sunday night. This is a huge blow for the Braves as Acuna was putting up some huge offensive stats to begin the 2021 season.

Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies will have to pick up the slack on offense for Atlanta as they look to solve Nola and put some runs on the board.

Young Huascar Ynoa makes the start for Atlanta on Sunday night, and he has been great for the Braves to begin the year. Ynoa is 3-1 with a 2.36 earned run average, and he has also been very productive at the plate.

Braves Beat Division Rivals

The Phillies might have their ace on the mound for this game, but the Braves have a lineup that can score on anyone. There is a reason that Atlanta is a betting favorite to win the World Series, and they are showing that off this weekend.

The loss of Acuna is a huge blow for Atlanta, but they still have plenty of talent to put up some runs. This could be a low-scoring affair on Sunday night, and Huascar Ynoa will do his part for the Braves.

Look for one run to be the difference in this game, but it will be the Braves that get the clutch hit. Take the Atlanta Braves money line over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday Night Baseball.

Player Prop

Jean Segura (+193) Over 1.5 Hits

Segura had been a hitting machine since breaking in as an everyday player with the Brewers back in 2013. A lifetime .286 hitter, the 31-year-old second baseman has topped 170 hits three times with a career-high 203 back in 2016 with the Diamondbacks.

He was off to a solid start this season with a .333 average and 6 multi-hit games before a quad injury sidelined him on April 20 against the Giants. Returning two games ago, Segura looks to have picked up right where he left off. Against the Braves on Friday night, he went 4-for-5 and followed that up yesterday with a 3-for-4 effort.

Overall against Atlanta pitching this season, Segura is 13-for-32 with a .406 batting average. We’ll take the Phillies second baseman at plus-money (+193) to stay hot tonight and go over 1.5 hits.
