Philadelphia Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Preview/Prop Pick
14 January 2022
— Sunday, January 16th Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
There are six games set to take place this weekend in the NFL Playoffs, and one of the more intriguing matchups will take place in Tampa Bay. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to host the Philadelphia Eagles in the Opening Round of the postseason.
Philadelphia ended the regular season with a record of 9-8, and that was good enough for a Wild Card spot in the NFC. The Eagles turned things around in the middle of the season, but it was a disappointing end in Week 18.
Tampa Bay won the NFC South Division this season after going 13-4 in the regular season. The Buccaneers are the defending Super Bowl champions and should be in the mix again this year.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 8.5-point betting favorites over the Philadelphia Eagles in this playoff matchup.
Hurts Doing it All For Philly
Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 3,144 yards this season while also racking up 784 yards on the ground. The Eagles young star accounted for 26 total touchdowns, but he also wasn’t getting a ton of help.
Rookie receiver Devonta Smith did have 916 receiving yards and five touchdowns, and he will need to play a key role in this matchup. Philadelphia is going to have to score some points to keep up with the Buccaneers.
The Eagles gave up 51 points in the regular-season finale, and that defense has struggled throughout the year. Philadelphia can’t beat Tampa Bay in a shootout and must get pressure on Tom Brady.
Time For Tampa to Shine
The Buccaneers had another big season from quarterback Tom Brady, but the veteran did throw 12 interceptions. Brady put up 5,316 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, and he is facing a secondary that has really struggled.
Running the football has been a problem at times for the Bucs, but Leonard Fournette has the ability to take over a game. Fournette has racked up 812 yards on the ground, and he needs to give the Bucs some balance on that side of the ball.
Tampa Bay will give up some points, but they also have a defense that can be disruptive. The Buccaneers are going to have to contain Hurts if they are going to pick up a win on Sunday.
Buccaneers Blow Out the Eagles
Philadelphia suffered a 51-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the season finale, and that could have an impact on their confidence heading into this one. The Eagles do have the ability to put up some points on offense, but that defense is going to be a major problem against Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers were not always sharp throughout the regular season, but you can expect them to be a different team in the postseason. Tampa Bay just has so many weapons on offense, and they are going to put up a ton of points in this game.
The Bucs might struggle to win the Super Bowl, but they won’t have issues in this game. Take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -8.5 as this game turns into a blowout in a hurry on Sunday afternoon.
Tampa Bay (-120) OVER 27.5 Points
The Buccaneers finished the regular season with a 30.1 points-per-game scoring average, which ranked No. 2 in the league. That average increased to 33.5 points in Tampa Bay’s eight home games this season. When the two teams met in Philadelphia in Week 6, the Bucs scored 28 points in the first three quarters of a 28-22 victory.
With Dunkel predicting a Tampa Bay win by the score of 35-20, take the Bucs (-110) to finish OVER the Vegas team total of 27.5 points.
