Oregon Ducks vs UCS Trojans Betting Preview

27 March 2021

It’s a Pac-12 showdown in the Sweet 16 of the West Region when the Oregon Ducks take on the USC Trojans. The Pac-12 Conference has performed very well throughout the NCAA Tournament, but one of the teams from the league will be going home after Sunday.

Oregon moved out of the First Round after VCU was forced to withdraw due to COVID-19 issues. The Ducks then blew out the Iowa Hawkeyes in Round 2 to set up this matchup with USC.

The USC Trojans blew out the Kansas Jayhawks in the Second Round in a game that caught the attention of the country. USC is now 24-7 on the season, and they are the slightly better seed in this matchup.

The USC Trojans are two-point favorites over the Oregon Ducks.

Ducks Want to Fly Around

The Oregon Ducks want to play extremely fast, and that plan worked out well against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Oregon is averaging 75 points per game this season while holding opponents to just 67 a night.

Chris Duarte leads this team with 17 points and 2.5 assists per game, and he is capable of taking over this game from the guard position. The Ducks have plenty of shooters on their roster, and USC will have to find a way to keep them from getting hot.

The Ducks are at a size disadvantage in this game, but they will use a number of different zone defenses to try and limit the USC offense in the paint.

Mobley Brothers Leading USC

USC is not usually a team that is going to beat teams from the outside, but they are tough to stop in the paint. It was the Mobley brothers, Evan and Isaiah, that took over the game against the Kansas Jayhawks.

Evan Mobley is scoring 16.5 points per game for the Trojans, and he is one of the top players in the country. USC is averaging 75 points per game, but they proved against Kansas that they are capable of a big offensive night.

The Trojans held the Ducks to just 58 points in the first meeting this season, and they will try to win another game with defense. USC can’t afford to get into a track meet with Oregon as they don’t have the depth to win that style of game.

Trojans March On to Elite 8

There won’t be any secrets between Oregon and USC when the two teams meet up on Sunday night. These teams are very familiar with each other, and that should lead to a very tightly-contested matchup.

Oregon looked sharp in their win over Iowa, but they really struggled against the size of USC earlier in the year. The Trojans were simply dominant in the win over Kansas, and they are playing their best basketball at just the right time.

Neither team will be able to pull away, but it will be USC that makes all the clutch plays down the stretch. Bet the USC Trojans -2.0 over the Oregon Ducks in this Sweet 16 showdown.
