Oregon Ducks vs Oklahoma Sooners Alamo Bowl Betting Preview
29 December 2021

>— Wednesday, December 29th Oregon Ducks @ Oklahoma Sooners
We've got a fun game scheduled on December 29th between the Oregon Ducks and Oklahoma Sooners. The Alamo Bowl might not garner as much attention as the Rose Bowl, but it's always a great watch.
The Oregon Ducks finished their season with a 10-3 record but have a tough test waiting for them. The Oklahoma Sooners finished their season 10-2 and ranked No.16.
These two teams are quite similar as we head into this game. The Ducks finished the year ranked No.14 in the nation, and the Sooners were just behind.
However, only one team can win the Alamo Bowl. This led us to ask the question, "Who's the best bet in this one?". On one side, you have the Oregon Ducks; on the other, the Oklahoma Sooners.
Let's take a look at both.
Oregon Ducks: Leading with the run is their best bet
For the Oregon Ducks, getting their offense going early is key. The last thing they want to do is fall behind in this game and give the Sooners a head start.
To get their offense running, they'll first need to start by establishing their running offense. They have one of the best in college football, averaging 203.2 yards per game. They can use this to open up the passing game.
From there, the main point will be defense and stopping the passing game. The Sooners have one of the best passing offenses, averaging 265.3 yards per game.
If the Ducks can't slow down the Sooners' passing, they'll be in a lot of trouble. The good news is the Ducks have a pretty good defense. The bad news is that the Oklahoma Sooners have a slightly better one.
Oklahoma Sooners: Defense, Defense, Defense
For some teams, the offense is hard to come by; that's not the case for the Sooners. Oklahoma has a strong offense but can falter on defense occasionally.
This is why we think the main point for the Sooners on Wednesday should be defense. If they can stop the Oregon running game, they'll effectively stop their offense. From there, the Sooners can do what they do best, score.
The Ducks don't have much of a passing offense, but they tear it up on the ground. Stopping them won't be an easy task for the Sooners to complete.
More importantly, the Sooners will still need to put enough points up to cover the 4.5-point spread. The Sooners have been pretty awful at covering spreads this season. They're 5-6-1 against the spread this season.
Our pick for the Alamo Bowl between Oregon and Oklahoma
When looking at each of these teams, a few things stand out. One is that the Oregon offense is going to rely heavily on the run. Two, the Oklahoma Sooners might not have an answer for it until late in the game.
For that reason, we'll take the Oregon Ducks +4.5 in this one.
Neither team has done well against the spread this year, so you can't go by trends. You can, however, go by how these teams have performed in big games.
We'll also take the under in this one, considering the point total is set so high.
