Northern Trust Betting Preview

The PGA Tour heads East to TPC Boston for the 2020 Northern Trust. This is the event formerly known as the Barclay’s, and recently was moved from New Jersey to Boston, and will alternate each year. There are plenty of former champions in this event, and this is also the start of the 2020 playoff season. There is a ton on the line at this par 71 course. Last year in New Jersey, Patrick Reed held off Abraham Ancer for the title. Let’s take a look at some guys we like to fare well in the 2020 version:

Xander Schauffele +1700

Xander is listed in the Top 8 most places you find odds, but just outside of the first “elite group”. It will be interesting to see how he bounced back after taking a week off of competitive play following the PGA Championship. Xander has finished within the Top 20 in five straight events, but no Top 5 finishes during that time. Right now he is a great golfer, but hasn’t been able to turn the corner at elite. Things could change when he shows up in Boston this weekend.

Tiger Woods +4500

This is an event that Tiger will want to start his strong place. Tiger Woods has played in just 6 events this season, and won once. Woods has finished in the Top 10 three times this season as well. But, those were before the COVID-19 break. Woods is always a great threat to win an event, and this is no expectation. The weather should hold up for him to be able to play a strong weekend.

Jason Day +2600

While he has yet to win an event, there really isn’t a golfer that is playing consistently great golf like Jason Day. Day finished 4th at the PGA Championship, which was his fourth event in a row staying inside the Top 7. Day has found his groove, something many were not sure he would be able to do with his back injury history. Day is never afraid of the moment, and that should be no different this weekend.

Daniel Berger +3000

Berger is a guy that many will overlook. While Berger had the one hiccup at the Memorial, this guy has been really strong in 2020. Berger started with a 9th place finish at the end of January, and has finished no worse than 13th except for the one time. A 75th place finish, where he missed the cut. Even when Berger starts slow, he typically fights back and has three strong days to close out a nice event. Berger is a major threat htis weekend.

Others in Consideration:

Brooks Koepka +3500

Did we forget about this guy? Brooks Koepka is still an elite golfer. Sure, his results have not shown to be the best, but come on.. Koepka is going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder as well. At +3500, this is a great bet.

Tony Finau +3000

A cut maker, and a Top 10 finisher. Both of those things are Tony Finau. He has made the cut in his last 5 events, and finished in the Top 10 in three out of the last four. Finau is another guy that is getting great odds for how good of a golfer he is.
