NHL Preseason/Saturday's Picks
24 September 2022

The NHL preseason begins tonight with a pair of games, including the Boston Bruins playing on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers. Face off is 7:00 pm ET at Wells Fargo Center.
The Bruins are coming off a season where they posted a 51-26-5 record (107 points) to finish fourth in the Atlantic Division Standings. Boston has a new head coach in Jim Montgomery after firing Bruce Cassidy following the Bruins’ loss to Carolina in the postseason. Montgomery will have to deal with the losses of veterans Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy at least until November after off-season surgeries.
The Flyers had a horrendous 2021-22 campaign, finishing with a 25-46-11 record (61 points) and finishing last in the Metropolitan Division. Philadelphia also has a new head coach in former Stanley Cup champion John Tortorella. Tortorella is dealing with a series of injuries as well, including defenseman Ryan Ellis likely out for the season with a back injury and Sean Couturier still questionable following his season-ending back surgery in February.
Dunkel has the Bruins opening with a victory on the road tonight while the defense limits Philadelphia’s scoring opportunities and holds the final score under the Vegas total of 5 ½.
