It’s been a busy few days in the NFL, and it’s also one of the few times all season that coaches and GMs are together. The annual meetings are taking place, and this is typically a time when some big trades get made, and some new rule chances are announced. 

While there haven’t been any major trades in the last couple of days, there have been some big news stories handed down. Here is a look at three of the biggest news stories that have come out from the NFL in recent days.

Jackson Makes Trade Request to Ravens

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson announced on Twitter that he has requested a trade from the team. This trade request was made in early March, but this was the first time that it has gotten out into the public. 

The announcement from Jackson came just as head coach John Harbaugh was getting ready to meet with reporters, and he was asked about it. Harbaugh is hopeful that a resolution will happen that doesn’t involve a trade, but the Ravens and Jackson continue to be far apart in negotiations. 

Baltimore was forced to place the non-exclusive franchise tag on their star quarterback in order to keep him on the roster for next season. Jackson is able to negotiate with another team in the league, but the Ravens would be able to match that offer sheet to bring him back. 

It’s important to note that Jackson represents himself, and the fact that he does not have an agent has appeared to complicate matters. Jackson has received no interest from teams since the franchise tag was placed on him, and the Ravens haven’t had any trade discussions.

Commanders Receive $6 Billion Bid

NFL sources have announced that a bid of at least $6 billion has been submitted in an attempt to purchase the Washington Commanders. That bid was submitted by a group that includes Magic Johnson and is led by Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales. 

Steve Apostolopoulos, a billionaire from Canada, has also submitted a bid for the sale amount, and that could create a small bidding war. Daniel Snyder, current owner of the Commanders, can accept any bid that is received, and then it would be up to the NFL owners to approve the sale. 

The previous record-high for a sale was $4.65 billion, but this deal is going to shatter that mark. Snyder purchased the Washington franchise back in 1999 for a sale price of $800 million. 

NFL Players Can Wear Number “0”

More changes are coming to the NFL uniform number policy, and players will be able to wear the number “0” for the first time in history. This number will be available to anyone besides offensive or defensive linemen, and this proposal was submitted by the Philadelphia Eagles. 

Kickers and punters are now eligible to pick between a larger range of numbers as that group includes numbers 0-49 and 90-99. The NFL has started to loosen its number policy in recent years as teams have complained about the lack of available numbers.
